Shy and nervous as he is, it might surprise anyone to know Jude is a servant of Xerzaephes, the god of death. He is an archivist in the strange collections of the afterlife, where records of all deceased souls are kept and organized according to Xerzae’s ever-changing whims. This might be why Jude always seems stressed, and panics when anything goes wrong. Keeping track of so many random things involving everyone who has ever died is even more difficult than it already sounds; he’s extremely anxious about being seen as useless, and kicked out into the sea of deceased souls.

Like all servants of the death god, Jude is free to traverse between the afterlife and the material plane at will, but he rarely does so. All of his time is spent fulfilling Xerzae’s chaotic taste for bureaucracy, and waiting for Than to return from his own tasks. Incidentally, Jude has a huge crush on Than; he admires what he sees as the unshakable confidence and attractive strength of his fellow servant of death. They’ve never talked about this before, however, so his feelings are currently all internalized.
