With a pretty face, a kind, gentle smile, and some flashy clothing, the young detective, Jin Kazunari, is able to grab the attention of many who only glance at him once. Having been recognized as a prodigy since middle school, he is used to being praised by his peers and other adults, and more often than not, the praise gets to his head and fuels his already large ego. While he will pretend to be modest and brush off praise at times, he truly believes that he deserves praise from everyone and believes himself to be in a higher position than most people.
From a young age, Jin had always wanted to become an astronomer like his mother whom he loved the most out of everyone in the world. When she finally couldn’t handle the pressure of being married to an alcoholic and abusive husband though, she left, unable to take Jin with her. Jin’s world turned upside down. All that was left with him was a ring from his mother that he always wears and treasures. His already bad relationship with his father got worse as he grew up. Determined to search for his mother and reunite with her, he worked towards becoming a detective instead. He was praised for being a genius at a young age because he would spend all his time dedicated to studies and research instead of making friends. All the praise started to get to his head and he ended up developing an ego and a bit of a god-complex as he gained more influence and power. He started becoming corrupt and bent the law to his favor, crushing anyone who got in his way. His popularity grabbed the attention of a secret criminal organization, Sanguis, who worried about him getting in the way of their affairs. By chance, Jin ended up befriending a boy named Reiji in middle school, someone who happened to be part of Sanguis and was ordered to keep an eye on Jin after their friendship was discovered by Sanguis. This led to a confrontation happening when Jin caught Reiji snooping through his room when he was invited over. Reiji, in a panic to save his own life, suggested that Jin join Sanguis because if not, both him and Jin would end up killed anyway now that he had been discovered. Jin, conflicted on getting rid of Reiji due to the two being best friends decided to give it some thought. Sanguis offered that if Jin joined them, they could help him find his mom, which made Jin accept. He now reluctantly continues to work for the police and secretly follows orders from Sanguis.
Kaoru is Jin's mother who he has not been able to find ever since she left her abusive alcoholic husband. He only has good memories of her and hopes to find her again with his detective influence.
Jin has been friends with Reiji ever since middle school after Jin stood up against bullies who were picking on Reiji. They are also co-workers in Sanguis. The two care deeply about each other and trust each other more than anyone else, but unfortunately, Jin is and has been oblivious to Reiji's obvious crush on him for the past years.
Jin and Haruyuki first met in middle school and used to be enemies. Jin couldn't stand Haruyuki's rebelliousness and only hated him more after finding out he'd be working under Haruyuki for Sanguis. Overtime though, as they were forced to spend more time together and inevitably opened up to each other, they started to become friends who would only jokingly argue. Now n' days, it's Reiji who teases Haruyuki and gets him riled up until Jin steps in to stop things from getting too hectic.
