Sonya Baranova

Sonya Baranova is Ravkan born and, to her knowledge, the only child her parents had. Her family was not very wealthy, but they managed to get by and her life, while not luxurious, was comfortable. Up until the day her Grisha powers manifest. She had been visiting the market with her mother that day and on their way home, were attacked by a pair of thieves. Sonya, then aged seven, panicked when she was injured and as a result, accidentally killed one of the men by stopping his heart. She was a Grisha, a corporalki.

After that her parents were all too happy to get rid of her, they did not want a Grisha child for all the trouble she could bring and thus they handed her off to the first official Grisha party they could find. She was taken to the Little Palace and remained there ever since, learning to hone her craft. She has left the Little Palace twice to join the second army on the front lines, but has managed to come back alive and mostly unscathed each time, something she often seems to regret.
