character note: as a vessel, snag can't talk

name: snag

pronouns: they/them

a vessel, one of the firstborn in the abyss. they were inkwell's first friend, and they were happy to lead them around, introduce them to the abyss' local ancient being, aza, and just hang out. inkwell had been particularly timid at first, but eventually they grew close. when the pale king arrived to find his hollow knight, snag and inkwell attempted the climb together. midway through it, inkwell slipped and snag tried to save them, but that only resulted in them both falling, all the way to the bottom. while inkwell survived, snag wasn't quite as lucky.

later, inkwell managed to find another route that led out from the birthplace. snag, now a shade, intercepted them. desperate to keep their family together and to reunite their still-living siblings with them as shades, snag tried to shatter inkwell's mask. they ultimately failed and inkwell fled the abyss, though they snapped off a part of inkwell's horn in the process.

after a long, long time, when the knight returned and unified the void, snag returned to their mask and left the abyss with one goal in mind: find inkwell and bring them home. tracking them far and wide across the wastes, they end up coming across the cinderfall estate*, where they find aurthias and silverwyrm. upon learning that inkwell infrequently visits them, they decide to stay with them and hopefully reunite with their estranged sibling, rather than wandering around the middle of nowhere, fruitlessly following that distant speck of familiar void.

they always carry inkwell's broken horn with them, never letting it out of their sight even under the most dire of situations.

after the events in the abyss, snag has become forlorn, reclusive, and somewhat cold, though they had once been a friendly, caring, and very childish soul. snag loved their siblings, and did their best to keep them all together, which was easier said than done considering there were thousands of them. they mourn for the ones who'd left the abyss, lost and alone.
