An eager-to-help Hainu (winged dog) who was born on the island of Caneai, where he still resides to this day. Despite once being a very small, almost weak pup, he was raised and trained to be a defender of his land. This was the tradition of the Ebonquil pack, after all. The family has ties with the royalty of Caneai, known to be skilled guard dogs and warriors who led armies to victory, or kept kings and queens safe during times of tension. So, tough as his training was, Caleb didn't want to disappoint.

As he grew older, Caleb also adapted to his smaller stature. He thanks his parents for being careful about his training--he learned ways to work around his weaknesses. A sign of this was how his wingplates became a deep, shimmering blue--they reflect his good health. However, right when he was expecting to be enlisted as a member of the Caneian Aerial Guard, someone had other plans.

Rather than rise in the ranks he'd already been training for, Caleb was sent to the Caneai Defense Council instead--a new agency working alongside the Royal Guard to investigate and diffuse situations inside and outside of Caneai. He wouldn't directly be taking part in the fights that broke out, but working to prevent them early on.

As odd as it was, Caleb was simply glad to work for a good cause. His line of work swapped to courier and he was stationed at Fogden, a small town near the center of the island. This made it easier for him to fly deliveries to nearly any location on the island within a day or so, along with send and receive messages directly to the nearby capital city.

This was also when Caleb was assigned to his future best friend, Starspell the Cattaur. For 7 years now, the two have lived in Fogden, working to keep the peace. Although, Caleb is definitely the one who makes sure Starspell has peace-- he often has to pull the feline away from his work by force.

Overall, Caleb is a level-headed, kind canine who would give just about anyone the benefit of the doubt. But when someone crosses his morals, he shows a lot more bite than bark.

Caleb's personality shines brightest when with a group. He believes in treating those around him as he would want to be treated himself: with hospitality and kindness. He holds his morals in highest regards and always strives to do the right thing in every situation. He also has a strong sense of responsibility, and does his best to ensure everything is taken care of. With a combination like this, it's clear why he puts so much effort in to lift the spirits of those around him and be the glue that holds groups together.

Caleb is loyal until the very end and will devote himself to the best interests of his friends. He goes out of his way to make sure that they feel appreciated and cared for. This is where he works best as a Paladin--strong on his own, but stronger with a team to support. However, it's easy for Caleb to burn out if he carries most of the load. It means the world to him when shown support similar to what he gives--and this is one of the best ways for a true friendship with him to blossom.

With a moral compass he lives his life by, Caleb will defend it. When someone crosses it, he can find it confusing and difficult to let go. This often leads to him judging the actions of those around him if they seem out of line... Though he has plenty of patience. When faced with friends making morally grey decisions, he's not afraid to speak up to work out a new solution, or give those around him second chances. Although under certain circumstances, he may even defend his friend's actions, being under the belief that his closest allies can do no wrong. This mentality never lasts long if the wrongdoing persists. Whoever manages to take advantage of his kindness to that point had better be prepared to face the fury of a Knight Who Fights for Grace.

Abilities

Wing Shield

With his wings, Caleb can defend himself from a wide array of attacks. The sturdy outer featherplates can withstand even strong Elemental blasts.

Tailblade

With his Air and Light Elements, Caleb can summon a blade at the end of his tail. Further mastery of this ability will allow him to change the shape of the blade, and even launch projectiles from it.

Reflection

A second ability of Caleb's wing shield. When under bright light, Caleb's wings can absorb said light and charge him up for his other abilities. Additionally, if Caleb's featherplates are hit by an Elemental attack that relates to light in one way or another, he can absorb the essence of it and send it right back with a gust, or even charge his tailblade with it momentarily. When charged, markings under his eyes appear.

Power Howl

This ability requires some form of charge from Caleb's featherplates. Using an Element he's absorbed, Caleb can let loose a howl to heal or strengthen his allies. Natural sunlight he absorbs results in healing and energizing effects. (Vitamin-D through the ears) Some effects differ depending on what he's taken in and who's hearing it.

Trivia

Caleb is technically my very first character. He was based off of my dog at the time, a sheltie who had the same name. I have since incorporated traits of another sheltie I owned, named Brownie.
His middle name also originates from the real life Caleb.
He originally had fire elemental powers, but I switched him to air later.
His design could be considered plain, how it's literally based off of the sable coloring of a sheltie. But it's actually been a design I've been the most indecisive about. I personally like keeping the sheltie inspiration incorporated, but I've always wanted to take some steps into a more fantasy-esque design, too. I'm pretty happy with how he is now, though a keen eye will notice my indecisiveness in many of his pictures.
He was greatly inspired by Spyro the Dragon. Another four-legged, winged hero!
His metallic feathers are inspired by Kushala Daora from Monster Hunter.
His personality and abilities are inspired by classic heroes and knights. Especially the RPG Paladin class. A few of my friend's characters have also helped me shape his character more--like Shadowpikaboo's Dreamcatcher and LillyLightstar's Dreamweaver.
