{ About/Trivia }

Sisk is... strange, to say the least. Some say he's not quite right in the head, he just don't know how to act, etc etc etc. He's heard it all.

  • Sisk loves pranks and will find almost any excuse to pull one.
  • Sisk's cloudgutter elemental reduces precipitation so he can maintain his rain shadow.
  • Every time he visits the Conservatory, he's never in his own biome.
  • Sisk scratches at his lichens like a dog, so they're ever-changing.
  • Sisk hates the rain and getting wet since he's so unused to it.

In reality, all Sisk really wants is a couple friends to mess around with from time to time. Life on the mountain is both difficult and lonely, and ever since the mine was abandoned has only became worse in both aspects.

{ Backstory }

At the base of the dry side of the mountain lied an old mining town, on its last legs from the ore deposits finally running dry. The mine had long since been closed down, but was still relatively open and maintained for 'historical purposes'. The town was Home for many and those who stayed, riding out the dregs of the glory days, were all very close to each other; that tends to happen in small towns like that. Besides, it was nice and decently equipped, with warm weather and gorgeous views right outside your very own window; a fine place to raise kids, but maybe not stay for very long afterwards.

An overconfident man decides one day to take on an adventure for some childhood nostalgia, deliberately ignoring the countless warning signs posted outside of the now-abandoned mineshaft in his overconfidence. In recent years the mine has fallen into disrepair and multiple small collapses have occurred, but the man has no idea of the danger that lies ahead. He's made the journey many times before and came out unscathed, so why should this time be any different? In his hubris, he has no idea that he's about to enter the mine and leave permanently changed: lost.

No one warns you in advance about the ever-present fear that happens when you're trapped underground. No one tells you that mine collapses are LOUD and disorienting; that if you're not properly prepared then you're just as good as dead. Our protagonist had to find those things out the hard way, when a tunnel support came down directly on top of him leaving him to crawl out, injured, and fend for himself.

Through some luck and an amazing sense of direction, he managed to survive one night, then two, and then after an unspecified amount of time (for who's really counting when it's pitch dark everywhere?), he emerged once more onto the dry side of the mountain, emaciated, exhausted, and thoroughly lost. In the darkness, there was no way of discerning the proper direction, so he decided to sleep, and whether it be through a twist of fate or a well-meaning passerby, woke up as Sisk.

{ Boundary }

A dry yet picturesque side of a largely abandoned mountain, dotted mostly with grasses, mushrooms, and lichens. Mild climate and little to no rainfall throughout the year.

{ Origin }

Sisk has a lot of mixed feelings about his new life, but they're largely offset by the fact that he doesn't exactly know what or how he's lost. When he was first brought back into the world as an Esk, there was a lot of confusion and pain. A hollow sense of loneliness marked every day as Sisk was left to his own devices to figure out his new way of life.

Over time, life became easier as an Esk, but a gnawing feeling in his gut became worse as he watched the town at the base of the mountain fall into disrepair and eventually disuse. Inexplicably, Sisk felt as though he'd lost Home somehow and it was heartbreaking.

After a lot of time and introspection (for what else does an Esk have?), Sisk eventually came to understand both himself and his life better; the depressed and lonely Sisk was no more, replaced with someone far closer to his original personality when he was human. Now, Sisk seeks to chase away loneliness and replace it with laughter- the greatest sound on earth.

{ Notes }

Design Notes:

  • Pro tip: Use Sisk's cloudgutter elemental (the cloud, yes it's a part of his design) to hide the transition to his dark mask.
  • Calf spurs are present on his front legs only.
  • Lichens can be simplified but MUST be present and at least resemble the plants' appearances in real life.
  • Pro tip: The more of Sisk's upper body you hide with the cloud, the less lichens you have to draw.
  • He can be drawn in other environments but doesn't generally like to leave his mountainside. His 2nd-most visited place is the Conservatory.
