Born in the Kanto region, Sol had only known terror and destruction. His parents were not known for a long time, as they were absent when he was born. Born with a strange red pigment in his fur, Sol was a walking target for the hybrids that roamed the land. Spending his early days hiding, Sol learned that survival was more important than being a victor. However, the stories of the legendary knight Arthur had inspired him at some point to become a warrior. And so, Sol trained at Viridian City, for an indeterminate amount of time- it passed by in a blur in his memory.
Eventually, he had grown strong enough that he could travel on his own, and he wandered around Kanto. He had even discovered that he possessed the ability to use dragon and fighting type attacks. The hybrids he once feared were now opponents on equal standing, and Sol oftentimes fought them. However, the Pooch was not reckless, as he made sure to include an escape plan should he get cornered. Everything was going well, up until he got captured by the hybrids and brought to Nefarious.
The sight of the Mewtwo made him tense up in fear. The one responsible for destroying over half of the region was standing before him, inspecting him like he was some test subject. Sol was then exposed to the truth- he was a creation of Nefarious, using a strand of DNA found of Arthur, combined with the blood of a Koraidon in hopes of making a replica of Arthur that he could control himself in order to spread chaos and despair all over Kanto as a supersoldier. Nefarious told this to Sol in hopes of breaking his spirit, that doing so would make his heart waver and thus suspectable to control.
However, this only served to enrage the Poochyena. Breaking into his Koraidon powers, he had broken free from the hold that the hybrids had on him. Before Nefarious could seize Sol, he had already escaped. As the hybrids chased the fleeing Poochyena, he had found himself inside Cerulean Cave. Retreating into the deepest recesses, he found himself despondent- he was a born monster, one that never had a place among the good natured folk that had taken him in for safety. Through his newly founded fear, he encountered a lonely, solitary axestaff. Despite being surrounded by stone, the axe had sprouted greenery around it. A small flower had grown, its pale white petals glowing amidst the cave. It felt as if the axe had beckoned him to come take it in his hands.
As Sol took the axe in hand, and picked up the flower, he felt a voice in his head-
"Run free. Do not let them hold you down.
Embrace my heritage and stand against the storm.
You may not be a Rosston, but you are my descendant."
Sol heard the voices of the incoming hybrids. He held the axe ready.
Before he or the hybrids knew what happened, Sol had cleaved through them all without a single thought. Surrounded by the bodies, Sol was spattered in blood, save for the pale white flower perched on his ear.
As Sol exited the cave, he was confronted by Nefarious, who was now glaring at the flower and axe. Both unknown factors he had no idea of, he moved to seize Sol before he flee again with his psychic power. However, the axestaff and flower stopped the psychic energy from taking hold. Sol didn't stop to ponder why- he ran. He ran with all his draconic heart could muster. And before he knew it, he was back near Viridian.
Sol was so close to entering Viridian when he was stopped by Jaz and Fefnir. The two were sent out to wait for their escaped hybrid, and were set to take out Sol and bring him back to their father. The fight was going poorly for Sol, unfortunately. The two's tandem attacks left the Poochyena spinning until he was left using his axestaff as support. Bleeding, he could see Viridian's guards looking out at him with a mixture of unease and fear- the pup they saw train in their walls was one of the monsters that destroyed their region, but they couldn't come to terms with grouping him with them. Sol let out a primal roar, and he began to fight back against the two with increasing intensity. The wild pulse in his heart and soul drove him to attack faster and faster, the axestaff singing with an otherworldly speed betraying its size. The power managed to eventually overwhelm his two attackers, and they were knocked aside. Before Sol could finish them off, the adrenaline stopped, and he collapsed at Viridian's gates.
The guards, unsure of what to do, called for Penndragon.
When Sol awoke, he was in a hospital room. As he sat up, he saw the Typhlosion of Johto and the Charizard of Kanto. Both were observing him closely.
Sol shrunk a bit. He was unsure of what to think of the current situation. Were they going to kill him? Send him back to Nefarious?
However, Penndragon's gaze eased a bit. "You're not quite like the hybrids that's terrorized Kanto. Clearly, you have some sense left in you. Makes sense I suppose... Seeing as how you've got the DNA of one of my ancestor's friends."
"What he's trying to say is, we know you're not a threat to Kanto or Johto. We read the reports." Xief was holding some papers. "Reports of a lone Poochyena that fought against Nefarious' hybrids. You grew up as a protector of the cities."
"We brought you here to talk with you about a job offer. A job here among the elites of elites. It beats going back out there and having to contend with facing your creator again."
Sol blinked. This wasn't what he was expecting.
"You-You're going to let one of your enemy's creations join your ranks? What will the public think?"
Xief sighed. "Admittedly, the bias is already having some in fear. However, a good few folks in Kanto are combating that fear by telling the public of your efforts. And then there was your fight... The Viridians were scared, but your battle was filmed and shared with others."
Penndragon stood tall, and extended a hand. "If you are truly made of the same DNA as the man that once led my ancestors, you would do him proud by joining us in protecting these lands as an elite. Don't let your origins stop you from doing what is right."
After a moment, Sol breathed some, and took Penn's hand and shook firmly.
"I'll do it."
Xief took the other paw, and grinned. "Atta, boy, pup. Before we get you into your new role, however, we gotta refine that combat technique of your's. You seem to be very much self taught, which is admirable, but you need discipline. So I'm gonna drill it into your skull!"
Penn laughed. "Dammit, Xief, don't scare the damn dog!"
Instead of being scared, however, Sol let out a chuckle.
The first time in his life he had known joy.
"Well, considering I survived taking on Nef's own blood, I'm sure I'll be okay!"
From that day, Xief trained Sol in his CQC classes, with Penn offering further guidance to help with bringing out the best of his genes, both of Arthur's and the Koraidon's. The flower that he had plucked out was seeded aplenty, and now was a common sight among Kanto's surviving cities as a means of offering safe haven, known to everyone as Sol's Gaze. Sol would eventually finish his training, and he ascended to his status as an Elite, becoming the last guardian before anyone could face Xief and Penndragon. The axestaff was eventually found to be of Saynorian Origin, dropped when Sona and her party fell into the world years ago. Its owner had largely left it behind, but she, a well defined Delcatty, eventually gave her blessing for Sol to wield it freely.
