Personality:
Mercury is a risk taker; he is optimistic and enjoys taking things way past their limits even when he has no idea what he is doing. Mercury can be rather snarky and stubborn towards most people, always claiming to know exactly what he is saying is 100% true and facts even when he knows he is full of lies. He is known to never give up, even trying to take things further if a plan fails just to prove that he can do something, even if it means losing valuable people and objects in the end. He appears to have little to no worries, his emotions struggle to show when he is feeling certain ways, often causing him to look and act as if he is insane and frantic or just any emotion that doesn't match his current feelings. Some even say he is loud and expressive while others think he is quiet and reclusive. Mercury loves to have fun, he enjoys trying new things and new jobs, currently trying to become a captain, however, despite all the training and qualifications, he is far from being a captain...but will always classify himself as one. Mercury also at times tends to be a bit narcissistic, but he tries to actively fix that side of him after meeting his boyfriend, Hayes.

Backstory:
Mercury was raised in a very poor village, not knowing many members of his family nor really being told anything about them. However, he eventually learned about his grandfather that was a very well renown captain of a large vessel. Mercury absolutely felt the need to get to know his grandfather after learning this information. Years and years passed as they became close, all up until the day his grandfather unfortunately passed. Lucky for Mercury however, the large vessel owned by his grandfather was passed down to him! With little to no knowledge of being a captain, Mercury was willing to learn and teach himself all on his own out at sea. He took the ship the very day it was put into his possession and sailed right out to sea with not much preparation besides a small crew of nervous friends and other basic necessities. Only a few days into the trip at sea, he was met with a large storm he had no idea how to prepare for. This terrified his small crew; they grew angry at him for not knowing or understanding how dangerous this situation is in reality. It wasn't until the aftermath of the storm that Mercury realized his terrible decisions. His crew was all gone. Every last one of them were thrown into sea never to be seen again. After that, Mercury hid below the deck of the ship, contemplating all he had done while he slowly began to go insane, starving and depriving himself of sleep. One of his crew mates, a small child, left behind a small whale plush that Mercury made into his captain's hat. After many weeks of being alone on his ship, he started to notice that his vessel was starting to tear apart and sink because of his zero maintenance. Panicked, Mercury decided to abandon the ship despite the fact he had little to no swimming skills...for being part octopus. He struggled to keep himself afloat, exhausted and finding a piece of driftwood to lay against on the harsh waves. Lucky for him, as his luck never seems to fail, he stumbled across a large Navy vessel. Intimidated at first by the angry glances he was getting by the crew of the vessel, he started to try and float in the opposite direction before someone called to him. He was rescued by the captain of the vessel, Hayes. Hayes was confused and on edge by the new being on his ship, soaking and pathetic, even Hayes' crew thought he was crazy for allowing a random being onto the ship...but he knew he was just someone in need of assistance. Mercury was grateful and a little fearful at first, but days passed on the new Navy vessel, and he began to feel more and more comfortable, even though the crew always gave him dirty and confused looks since he isn't part of the Navy. Now Mercury just causes issues, but Hayes refuses to do anything about it despite also being annoyed by his antics, he grew to enjoy his company and Mercury began to enjoy his as well.

Trivia:

• Mercury is definitely a huge fan of annoying Hayes and pushing him to his limits, he likes to make him angry and snap at him as he tends to find it funny, just simply getting in his way is more than entertaining to Mercury. He just goes around picking on Hayes and being a nuisance just for the fun of it.
  
  
  
• Can be a smartass, adding to the annoyance he causes Hayes and the rest of the crew. He knows he doesn't belong, and he takes advantage of it.
  
  
  
• He always begs Hayes to be a part of the Navy crew, even without any of the experience or training and of course Hayes always says no because that is a stupid idea.
  
  
  
• Mercury is scared of cotton balls.
  
  
  
• Even though Mercury and Hayes are technically in a relationship, they never won't get on each other's nerves to no end.
  
  
  
• Mercury often trips over his own tentacles. The tentacles always tend to be a little sore after a long day also, since they drag around the wooden ship floor so often.
  
  
  
• Wears Haye's uniforms for fun
  
  
  
• If not bothering people on the main area of the vessel, he is below deck tormenting those in the small bar area aboard.
  
  
  
• Mercury tends to swear a lot, but he also has a rather dirty mind as well.
  
  
  
• He owns a whip that he uses as a weapon or self-defense or just to seem intimidating.
