About

Mascarpone had been promised at birth to Overseer Shearwater's son. To the unicorns of Stable 83, high status marriage arrangements were everything. To be promised to the next Overseer was the highest honor of all. She grew up learning the ins and outs of running a stable so that she could fulfill her duties as the next Overseer's wife. The brewing civil war between the deer and the unicorns was no trouble in her mind. Mascarpone fully believed that the deer were no threat to the high and mighty unicorn population. As the day of her marriage to Overseer Whitecliff approached, she was outraged when he broke off their engagement and instead pledged himself to a lowly deer.

The following years of her life were filled with bitterness and suffering. After Whitecliff had broken his promise to her, Mascarpone threw herself into the hooves of his best friend so that she could still remain by her beloved's side. Her new husband was cold to her, giving her no form of affection, but that was perfectly fine with Mascarpone. After all, she held no love for him either. She bore him one son, only out of duty, whom they named Buttermilk Sky. When Whitecliff's deer wife gave birth to a lovely daughter, Mascarpone was given an offer of betrothal between the new future Overseer and her son.

Mascarpone should have been happy to watch her son grow up in much the same way she did, destined for a great responsibility, but her bitterness only grew deeper as she jealously watched her son prepare for the life that should have been hers. She knew that Whitecliff had only even made the offer to wed their children out of guilt for the promise to her he had broken. Her every waking thought was plagued with hatred for Snowfall, the deer queen who had stolen her birthright. That was until Mascarpone's husband murdered her.

After her husband's trial and execution, Mascarpone was left alone. Her own son did not want to spend any time with her. She had never been a loving mother to him. Her only solace was knowing that Snowfall had finally got what she deserved. She spent years mindlessly wandering the beautiful atriums and gilded halls of the upper levels alone, lost in memories of brighter days. When the attack on Stable 83 took place, Mascarpone had been in her suite, enjoying her daily glass of wine. The alarms were of no concern to her. It was most likely just a test of the system. She simply put her suite into lockdown mode and curled up for a nap.

Mascarpone awoke into a new world. Her stable was empty of life, ransacked and destroyed. Whitecliff, his hybrid daughter, and her own son were nowhere to be found. When she made her way to the door, she was horrified to find that it had been blown apart, leaving a gaping hole to the outside world. Mascarpone hid in her suite for the next few weeks, too terrified to leave. She worried that whatever monster had torn apart her stable and taken everyone inside would return any minute to take her as well. But eventually, the threat of starvation drove her to finally take her first steps into the world above.

It was not monsters that found her, but a trading caravan that came across her unconscious form in the middle of the road. The one resident in all of Stable 83 that deserved kindness the least had been the one to be taken in by the kindest souls in the Wasteland. After nursing her back to health, they put her to work helping with selling inventory to earn her keep. After a time, she had become a full member of the caravan. And perhaps she had another chance for love as well.

The caravan leader wouldn't let himself be pushed around by Mascarpone's demanding attitude, but would let her cry on his shoulder when she needed to. He was gentle with her when she didn't deserve it and firm when the situation called for it. When she was with him, she felt all of the bitterness and hatred that she had held onto for years draining away. Somehow, he was changing her. She had even started to get along with his daughter, finally falling into the role of a loving and attentive parent. The rest of Mascarpone's days were spent happily traveling with her caravan, enjoying life with her new family.
