Background

SUMMARY

Khayllan is a gunsmith who also works as a hitman. He lives in Âmbar City and his mask is featured on many "wanted" flyers. He lives in a world where there are no humans, although he is in fact half human and half akhazi (an ancient species of creature now missing from that world).

APPEARANCE

Caleb has completely white hair from root to tip, just like his mother. He had pink eyes when he was born and they turned red over time.
He is a tall man with a ruby eye and snake-like pupils; he is blind in one eye and covers the scar with a black eyepatch. Also have two small battle cuts on the left one. Tends to dress very strictly, using many linings in clothing with room for protection against bullets and bladed weapons. He as "Khayllan" wears a mask with an on-screen motion sensor face that projects human-like emotive faces according to his mood, along to the hood that is part of his outfit. His weapons may vary depending on what he goes to work with, but he always carries a knife with a chain designed to cut through skin and scales.
His face was drawn from a more recent Necross's sheet. He is described within the story as being extremely similar to the king of the Akhazi, being sometimes mistaken for the same by older people and later giving this fact reinforced by Necross himself.

PAST

He was found near the wreckage of what was once the scene of a war between the "Âmbar People" and the Akhazi. The person who first saw him and rescued him was a former scientist named Aaron. Aaron used the knowledge he acquired during his life to work independently helping companies that produced weapons for the national army, sometimes with special armor that used mechanical magic. It wasn't long before Caleb also helped his father with his creations (even if it was just choosing the colors of the models).

Aaron had already noticed in the boy some specific behaviors and strength beyond what any child at that age would have. But it was only on a day when he got sick and reacted badly to the medicine that the scientist resorted to professional help. There were very rigorous exams and a long time of research until they finally discovered that the boy was half Akhazi... The same monsters that had once destroyed that city a few years ago. The searches are over and a new quest has begun to hunt down Aaron's history.  Despite having legally adopted the boy, Caleb stayed away from the man in government care until his situation was resolved, it was discovered that Aaron had already cooperated with the Akhazi during the war in the past, and perhaps be with the boy was one of his "plans". in addition to the boy himself starting to have his school relations difficult.

The whole situation was later denied, but by that point everything had already become public and many people were drawing their own conclusions, even those that had nothing to do with the problem. Aaron was fired from his job because many people began to question his loyalty for taking care of the boy and other small rumors that did not sit well with the company's image. Caleb started to help his father, doing specific maintenance of parts for "outlaw" people. He didn't tell to Aaron who his customers were, just that they were very generous with their money. With what they earned, Aaron was able to start his own business with highly acclaimed machines and mechanical parts and the rumors and abuse seemed to be almost non-existent.

Although his father refused to accept that he was a little confused in his mind. Caleb slowly started to run Aaron's business, which was previously just a "forgot to lock the door" or "what day is today" to a Full mind blindness episodes. Things quickly escalated to the point where many markers started appearing around the house with notes explaining details if he had already taken his pills or where they worked. Aaron still kept refusing to help himself and admit that he was sick, even when sometimes his mind simply forgot where he was and even called Caleb by another name.

That day, when Caleb came home from school early, and the lights were off, like nobody else was home, trying to help Aaron, he ended up hurting himself due to a misunderstanding due to the confusion the Doctor was in, but as soon as Aaron regained his memory a few minutes later after his act; even Caleb didn't blame his father at all, Aaron accepted the guilt, and disappointed in himself he went to seek help.

While Aaron was still conscious, he was moved to an observation clinic, during which time Khayllan was in the care of government leaders — something about the fact that he was half Akhazi made the president see him as a possible future military weapon, which led him to spend some time living in the presidential house, although, when he wasn't studying, he spent much more time visiting Aaron, who, in turn, kept blaming himself all the time saying he was "delaying" his son's life, the one which didn't seem to care. The boy actually hated the idea of constantly having his face exposed and treated like a celebrity, he said that as soon as Aaron was released from the hospital, the two would live far away somewhere by the sea where no one would recognize him, and if that day took too long, then he would live and work completely alone and take Aaron with him. His father patiently accepted this idea, but told him to be careful, as if he no longer had government assistance and Aaron himself was no longer around, he would probably have a difficult life. Aaron had long been a renowned scientist, so as soon as they found out he was ill, a lot of former colleagues started to come forward - some claimed to reappear to assist, but the truth was, once the doctor's name disappeared from the system, that would give them a step further in their respective careers, which ended up being erased from the highlights of the prodigy that he was. Caleb had no idea who had divulged this information, but as a way to protect his father and also his own privacy, he began to intersperse all his services by going through the past of the sick man's former co-workers, and then taking them to justice;

The last few times Caleb went to visit Aaron, he kept calling him by the name of the demon that had destroyed that city, but this time, less aggressive — Probably an even older memory, maybe even before he revealed himself as being a terrible person. Khayllan tried to use those episodes to find out more quickly which of his old friends might be plotting something against him, but after a few unpleasant interactions with Aaron, it was no longer tolerable for him to continue pretending to be someone he wasn't and even more so someone he didn't like, mostly because the answers seemed to get scrambled around in the same place. One of the nurses even told him that in situations like those it was quite common for people to leave their loved ones, when they stopped being themselves, and that he was too young to deal with a situation like that.

Although a little enraged by that advice, the idea began to turn in his head, and he didn't go visit Aaron for at least a few days until he got a call while he was having dinner with the president's family. His father had a lapse of sanity and seemed to remember everything. As moments like those were rare, it was when the boy joined him for a whole day to try to catch up on his apologize, frustrations and exchange fears. It was quite comforting, knowing that Aaron didn't blame him and didn't want him to allow anyone to do the same, that day, everything was right and his problems didn't exist, it was like a farewell; even knowing that he would still live for a long time, Aaron seemed to be aware of the things he had said to the boy and also that he would not have more moments like that. The Doctor presented Khayllan with his many diaries, giving him the key to the room he kept them in and told him he could do whatever he wanted with them, as they were all the memories he had. Caleb no longer seemed to see a reason to go after the people who were trying to get close to Aaron, and he even came to believe that it was idiot to think that there was actually something involving a plan to steal his projects.

It was when returning to a visit he came across many police cars, firefighters and ambulances surrounding the building. Supposedly a fire had started inside the clinic and many people were running away and being rescued. Caleb tried to run through the crowd to try to break into the doors blocked by polices, but was stopped by a strong tug on his arm by a social worker; he said the building was unstable and could explode at any moment, and that if any lives could be saved inside then the professionals would have already done so; ignoring that warning and for the first time, exposed some claws and let go of the agent as he headed towards the fire, he didn't even think he could get into trouble for hurting him — but again when he was close to entering, he felt another once his arm was being pulled, this time harder, a crack of bone later and he was on the floor with the agent's feet on his neck as he watched the windows of the building explode in front of him. The nearest cops landed on their seats, but weren't hurt. As soon as the agent released the boy from his foot, he tried to apologize for the arm and invited him to be treated by one of the first responders, but in the state the child was in, he could barely stay angry, his eyes were frozen in a terrified of utter shock, he could not trust the idea that his father was dead. His body was numbed enough that he didn't realize he had a broken arm. The agent stayed with him until dark, ensuring that no one else really left the building, so he swore not to reveal the boy's secret, but gave him enough money to fix his recent injury. There were journalists scattered around, as the fire did not appear to have started from inside the building and not even a mere accident. One of the interviewees was one of the men who had moved to the city after Aaron had fallen ill, he even looked suspicious, but Khayllan only realized that there was something wrong, when he saw a battery fall out of his pocket, it could be any detail, but he insisted on kicking it away and getting away. It was him? Khayllan investigated the guy and found out who he was, Ruiz, a former rival of Aaron. Had held a grudge for so many years since the old days after losing his job when Aaron and Necross revealed his past fraud.

Caleb, didn't care what happened to his life anymore, now, he was officially transferred to an orphanage, which he kept running away from to do dirty work for criminals - He was trying to learn from them a way to cope revenge. He learned and he did: Ruiz was bragging, as he made Aaron's death his escape, saying he missed his friend and that they were very close, and it was during one of his live performances that he was shot in the forehead and died right there. They never found out who killed him, but Caleb still felt bitter, as if that wasn't fair enough. He was willing to go after each of the rivals and former colleagues that were a threat to his father in the past, the ones he knew they were just waiting and hoping for this moment, as guilty as Ruiz and exterminate them one by one. — he did so according to the diaries he received, in the process officially adopting the alter ego of "Khayllan" while his very well done and subtle service caught the eyes of other customers who had their own revenge in mind. He agreed to do it for them, to get revenge for other people or just fulfilling the will of anonymous narcissists as long as they paid him well.

  • He has an obsessive taste and a vast knowledge of machines, robots and especially their weapons. It's easy to see him calm and in a stable mood when interacting or talking about these things.

Dislikes
  • Be the center of attention.
  • Being compared to other people.
  • His Akhazi nature. The rare times he accidentally exposes his features like horns or long hair, he tries to hide them, (he later learns to deal with it and uses it as a tool, but embraces his human side much more).
  • Places with lots of people. He demonstrates complete apathy and little expressiveness when placed in these situations, but is deeply uncomfortable and in a bad mood.
  • Loud sounds. He has a very high sensitivity to noise since he was a child.

Trivia
  • His name is a pseudonym he adopted in honor of Aaron.
"Khayllan" was a very powerful ship captain in the past who won many wars - Aaron started to gently call Caleb that way, while telling his motivating stories after he lost his eye, as the captain was also blind.
  • Khayllan is not classified as an albino, he is seen as such only by the Akhazi, as it is not natural for them to have light fur/hair with only a few variations of gray and brown. His white hair is a typical feature of the mother's side of the family.
  • He is quite polite, in fact a born observer and has a very keen sense of danger.
  • Unlike what many people think, he is not a complete maniac thirsting for revenge or a blind vigilante, he does not even take pleasure in killing, he is only partially indifferent treating commissioned killings as an ordinary job.
  • He has a very keen sense of smell, being able to distinguish the smell of the police and also possible "traps" hidden under the earth.
  • Although his body is more tolerant of long and hard work, being half Akhazi, Khayllan has difficulty realizing when he is completely exhausted, his mind is the first to fail so he always seems numb.
  • He is a vegetarian, but not for a very noble cause. He learned to deny meat since he was a child because he was taught that he has a predisposition to become addicted to it. He hates vegetables prepared in any way, but forces himself to eat them.
  • Necross is his main psychological enemy, being often represented as a parallel to himself. Aside from constantly being put in his shadow due to their physical similarities and being the same species, he hates to admit that he still has some interest in seeing him in person. As a child, Caleb told his father that he wanted to meet Necross before he knew who he was or what he stood for.

Notes

  • Necross seems to be a nice, gentle, social and friendly man who is almost always seen wearing a smile on his face (If in his old version). However, in his true form as an Akhazi, on the rare occasions he doesn't have to "pretend", he is quite aloof and cold rarely showing positive emotions unless when being intentionally mean.
  • In the nineties (younger human long hair form) He's totally silly and sometimes his clothes are messy or dirty. That when he's not actually naked actin pretty "wild" which would be close to his true self. He already disguised his intentions with smiles at that time, but much more sugary and exaggerated.
  • Yes, I'ts totally ok to mix up his transformations when drawing. There might be some examples of this in the gallery, but centaur like (with his quadrupedal akhazi form) or just making his human form with horns or wings etc... I don't see how that would be useful besides an in between of his shapeshift, but seems cool.
