Hemlock grew up in the weeds of Mississippi, and never shook off the ennui of a wasted youth. Hem moves around often, chasing work where he can find it, and has a tendency to drift in and out of people's lives. His only permanent possession is a motorcycle, and he spends long periods of time as a vagabond, flirting between Southern California and his hometown in the Magnolia state. He sometimes stays with Fenmouse for short periods of time whenever he's in New Orleans. Although Fen's boyfriend disapproves of Hem being around, Alfred was vetoed by Fen and Missy, who love to hear about Hem's adventures in the desert states.
