Iku

Iku was created as a ghoul by the Excorcist's Guild from the body of an unknown young man who washed up on the shore. He was originally assigned to a senior exorcist and worked with him for several years. While ghouls were generally treated as expendable by exorcists his partner was an especially bad case, forcing him to take unecessary risks or even taking out his own frustrations on him. He spent quite a lot of time being reconstructed from injuries that would have been fatal to an average human, to the point where he developed a deep distrust of exorcists in general.

After his original master retired Iku was assigned to the newbie exorcist Hiro Kiyoshige. Hiro, being a bit of an odd case among exorcists, was the first person to treat him as he would a human and Iku quickly became attached to him. While he still holds no fondness towards other exorcists he's deeply loyal to Hiro himself and satisfied to be working with him.

Iku rarely shows much expression on his face so it's pretty common for people to mistake him for the calm and collected type. While he doesn't speak much and considers his words carefully, this is more due to having limited intelligence in comparison to humans than any particular wisdom. He's suspicious of most humans because of his past experiences, but for those he does get attach to he's doggedly loyal.
