Eira

If you venture into the far north you will eventually reach the North Pole. This land is frigid, unforgiving. 

One may think that this no man's land would be devoid of life but in fact, the north pole is inhabited by artic wild life and humans who call this vast cold land their home.

The local human population who have long made their livings as whalers and fishermen, have a tradition of passing down the story of "Eira The Monster Bear" from one generation to the next.

Some details of the legend have been lost to time, but the general gist of the story goes as follows:

" In the sub zero waters around The Northpole there once lived a carnivorous  whale who was rumored to be the size of a cargo ship; and as dangerous as the most ferocious shark.  This whale terrorized the local population. He would destroy their ships, scare away the local game and eat whoever dared to set foot on the water. No hunter could slay him. 

The locals who soon were driven to starvation became desperate and began to pray for salvation. Their prayers were answered in the form of a Polar Bear who appeared out of the snow. Flames engulfed the bear's body and even after being submerged in water; the flames would never falter. The bear fought and killed the monstrous  whale.

Upon victory she ate the whale's corpse and was given immortality as a result."

"The local population named the Polar Bear 'Eira.' and to this day she wonders the arctic."

Although most outsiders believe this story to be pure myth.... many of the locals insist if you go out onto the water in the middle of a blizzard you can see and hear the sound of a polar bear fighting something very large and very evil thrashing in the water.
