Kanta Inumaki (狗巻甘多 Inumaki Kanta) is a character in Jujutsu Kaisen. He is a grade 2 jujutsu sorcerer who works independently through his own supernatural consultation office. Like Toge Inumaki, he is a descendant of the Inumaki clan, but he inherited a less powerful manifestation of the cursed speech technique.

Appearance

Kanta is a slim man with light skin, lavender eyes with long eyelashes, and wispy ash blond hair. His bangs drape over his forehead but do not normally obscure his eyes, instead brushing around the sides of his face towards the back of his head where short hair hangs at his nape. He was born with the "Fangs" portion of the "Snake and Fangs" seal of the Inumaki clan on his tongue. He tends to wear long-sleeved turtlenecks in dark purples, often with a khaki blazer, light-colored slacks, and brown Oxford shoes.

Personality

Kanta has developed a rather twisted personality, reveling in any opportunity to get the better of others. As such, he is a habitual, if not pathological, liar. He conceals these intentions from first impressions by wearing a smile and talking sweetly. Kanta's voice carries an alluring timbre due to his near-constant use of his cursed speech. To those who are unaware of cursed energy manipulation, this makes ignoring him virtually impossible. Even participants in the jujutsu world can fall under his sway if they are not careful to bolster their wills or even shield their brains and ears with cursed energy.

Beneath all of this confidence and charisma, Kanta has stuffed down a terror of abandonment. The loss of his clan's favor during his formative years has embedded an expectation in him to be passed over by others if he does not take action to make them attend to him. Because of this, he is even prone to try to use his cursed speech on Somrak, whenever he starts to worry that his partner will leave him if not compelled to stay.

Abilities and Powers

High Intelligence: Kanta's schemes are not all bluster. He possesses the intelligence to apply his cursed speech in devious ways and at unexpected moments.

High Endurance: Out of spite for their gap in innate gifting, Kanta honed his own techniques to be more versatile and conniving than Toge's. Thus, he can afford to utilize his cursed speech in everyday conversation without draining his reserves or dealing backlash to his body.

Kanta unabashedly hates his cousin, though he may put on the appearance of cordiality when interacting with Toge directly. Toge has no love for him in return, due to how unkindly Kanta has treated him for so many years. Kanta makes no effort to comprehend Toge's coded speech and often mocks him for having to rely on a safety measure which he sees as vastly overcompensatory.

Somrak Bunmi

Arguably the only person Kanta actually likes, Somrak has become Kanta's partner both on and off the clock. Though they usually get along smoothly, Kanta often pouts at how Somrak rarely ever reacts to his words the way that those who are unaware of the influence of his cursed speech do react. Ironically, Kanta seems to be unaware that Somrak enjoys watching him get hoisted by his own proverbial petard.

Other Jujutsu Sorcerers

Working with other sorcerers are means to his own ends. He as a margin of respect for Mei Mei's policy not to get involved unless she's being paid. He tends to grind his teeth at gifted individuals like Gojo, especially when they have an annoying personality to match.

Synopsis

History

For the first eight years of his life, Kanta was the Inumaki clan's golden child, but all of that changed when Toge was born with a greater and fuller manifestation of inherited cursed speech technique. The shift of attention away from him toward Toge filled Kanta with biiter jealousy. While the two of them were growing up within the same household, Kanta took every opportunity to make life difficult for Toge, eventually baiting Toge into cursing him and then playing the victim of his cousin's lack of self-control. This is what prompted Toge to engineer his own method of communication that could be done safely.

Kanta met Somrak at university and was intrigued by their skills. Rather than seething in jealousy, however, Kanta made every effort to wrap Somrak around his finger. Though this was to little effect, it piqued Somrak's lingering curiosity in return, and the two ended up working together on local sorcercy assignments. Upon graduation, Kanta set up an independent supernatural consultation office, and Somrak stuck around to help out with the business while continuing their own studies on the side.

Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc

Kanta is present in the viewing room with Mei Mei. When asked why he is there, he states blithely that he wouldn't miss an opportunity to watch Toge coughing up blood. He makes no effort to protect the students when curse users and cursed spirits attack the event and is visibly disappointed that Toge survives the ordeal.

Shibuya Incident Arc

When asked to collaborate in this effort, Kanta declines, boasting a certainty that the whole matter will end terribly for almost everyone there.

Itadori's Extermination Arc

Kanta sees an opportunity to kill Toge off while he's incapacitated at Jujutsu High. On his way to do so, however, he encounters Yuta Okkotsu who has just come from visiting Toge, and the killing intent Yuta emanates persuades Kanta that he should retreat for now. He's highly embarrassed that Somrak laughs at the outcome of this situation.

Culling Game Arc

Once a new rule to transfer points has been added to the Culling Game, Kanta devises a scheme to extort people who wish to survive the Game without having to kill, charging a steep cost in exchange for transferring them any points to delay the game's death penalty. Thus, he and Somrak enter one of the colonies in order to execute this scheme.

• Kanta's surname contains the kanji for "puppy, dog" (狗 inu) and "scroll, book" (巻 maki), and his given name contains the kanji for "sweet, coax" (甘 kan) and "many, frequent" (多 ta).
