After mixing fossilized remains found on Earth with gem technology, Fossil was created to serve as a bounty hunter for Pink Diamond. When she was given the mission to find the Crystal Gems’ base and capture their leader, she discovered the leader of the rebellion was her own Diamond. Angered by this, she confronted Pink Diamond at the Moon Base and threatened to tell the other diamonds what she was doing. But before Fossil could get away, Pink Diamond poofed and bubbled her away, and she stayed hidden in the Moon Base until Steven discovered her thousands of years later.
