Ruga

The daughter of an indentured servant, Ruga inherited her father's debts after he died of illness. The noble family who owned her family's contract had decided early on in her life that she would be raised to be a trained gladiator, thinking that because she was a female of her species that she would excel in the arena. This proved to be true, as she grew so did Ruga's strength and ferocity. She fought hard to earn her title as champion in hopes that she could easily pay off her father's debts and be free. Unfortunately, that wouldn't prove easy as the nobles refused to permit her to see the contract for herself. It was only after she snuck into the home office of the family's patriarch that she finally discovered that not only had her debt been paid off, but she was supposed to be legally free. Instead, the family had been using her to squeeze more money out of the gladiatorial arenas for years. At this, she flew into a rage and tore the family home to the ground, leaving the nobles to rebuild from scratch. Now, Ruga lives as a freelance fighter, earning a living through combat and violence. It's the only life she knows, and as far as she's concerned it's a life she's damn well happy to live as long as it's on her terms.
