Mb'obi had the childhood of the sorts that dreams are made of. Their planet was filled with adventure and happiness and joy beyond anything that could exist anywhere else, or at least that's what they always liked to think! Obi, as their family and friends call them, was a child filled with thoughts of fantastical adventure with an untamed imagination they'd unleash on everything around them. The vast plains circling their small town were battlegrounds, the tall weeds and reeds were places to hide, and the shimmering sea was the finish line. Every day they'd wander out into the plains in search of adventure, having to dodge their neighbors who had transformed into terrifying fire-breathing beasts to get to their mother on the shores. It was a childhood filled with delight that lasted long into early adulthood, with every day bringing new conversations and smiles and tasks to do, all alongside their loving mother who loved them more than anybody could ever love somebody else
Life is simple and kind and gentle until the night Obi is awoken by a tremendous crash somewhere out past the plains of their bedroom window. Curious, Obi grabs their backpack and runs into the plains, off to go see what amazing things space has brought them. Only, when they get there they see a ship unlike anything they've seen before - it's massive, built of hardened wood and reinforced metal and there's all sorts of strange creatures not unlike them crawling all around it! Too curious for their own good, Obi makes the fatal mistake of trying to get a closer look, only to get trapped inside one of the vessel's cargo boxes and knocked unconscious when it's shoved off a pile and falls unceremoniously on top of them, with the lid latched shut
Obi wakes up some hours later to the wide, frantic eyes of a crewman, the furious spitting of the ship captain, and too many miles away from home to even know what direction to go back in. Now stuck for an indefinite period of time on a ship with all sorts of beings Obi never even knew could exist, everyone just has to learn to get along until they can somehow find their way back to that nothing little planet to drop their stowaway off. Too bad they didn't remember what direction that originally was and all of their coordination software was damaged in the crash
This is all very unfortunate. Especially given that a chaotic, terrible force is stalking them across the universe, bent on razing down everything until the ship and its crew are nothing but ashes in the wind. But they may have some amazing adventures and see the universe in a brand new way before it gets to them!
