Yasushi & Ryuunosuke
Known as the silent "couple", Ryunosuke and Yasushi are perfectly comfortable in simply enjoying eachother's company without needing words to fill the space. That does not mean they don't speak about things as they do talk to eachother about their varied interests like history, mythology, and antiques. Only with time did the topics become more wisely simple and complexly stupid like how myths are analyzed as a part of history as well as how many smacks from a hammer can kill a man. The two have have become attentive to eachother, much more noticeably from Ryunosuke's end after the Cannibalism Arc; he has also become well more jealous and posessive of his ice-cubic friend too. Ryunosuke appreciates how honestly Yasushi speaks while Yasushi adores Ryunosuke's determination which is infectious. They accept eachother as they are and simply walk beside eachother as they move deeper into their own paths.
To others they are often touted as the "Alpha and the Omega" for both having canine symbolism and being known as the "leaders of the pack". Other names include "Black Ice" for their respective abilities together combining into the black ice phenomena.
Yasushi first met Ryunosuke in the Bullfights hosted by Tsugami; as he and Dazai "agreed" that the Port Mafia will assasinate Yasushi while simultaneously he promised Yasushi that he will bring someone that can prove the mafia's strenght as well as entertain the masses. The two did not have much to speak about as they were about to fight in a matter of minutes as well as neither being talkative people, but afterwards Yasushi became enamored with Ryunosuke's brutality and strenght despite the other causing him serious injury as well as to lose the battle. He was interested in having a conversation with Ryunosuke as well as compliment him on his fighting but Ryunosuke quickly disappeared the arena to look for Dazai, and Yasushi was stopped from following due to hearing in Dazai's and Tsugami's conversation on Dazai's request.
Ryunosuke and Yasushi were properly introduced after Yasushi joins the mafia, but not much came out of the relationship--at least not in a positive way. Ryunosuke was annoyed by how often Yasushi seemed to trail after Dazai despite not being his surbordinate and when questioned what he wants from Dazai, Yasushi said "his body". It was only after Ryunosuke saw Yasushi try to help Dazai in one of his suicide attempts did the pieces click into place and Ryunosuke became disinterested in the short man--which disheartened Yasushi. Ryunosuke only saw him as a possible sparring partner at best and did not go out of his way to interact with Yasushi otherwise. Yasushi grew to love more than Ryunosuke's strenght however and his interest was obvious with the blantant staring and blush that dusted his cheeks as soon as Ryunosuke appeared. Ryunosuke was perceptive to this "crush" but never raised a hand against Yasushi as Yasushi did nothing harmful yet.
The two only had a breakthrough after Yasushi "cheered up" Ryunosuke after Dazai's defection with asking for a sparring match that lasted for more than an hour. Though much wasn't said afterword Ryunosuke found himself more observant of Yasushi--seeing him fascinated with antiques, speak of history with an accuracy and passion even with a voice so quiet, and with a determination to get what he wants just like himself. There grew the need to speak, to know more which lead to conversations about history and mythes and even the human psyche.
The two have began a friendship even if Ryunosuke would not admit it, and it could only grow from there. The two could be seen together at times sitting in complete silence which confused others by how comfortable they were with it. Either that or speaking of their interests outside of the sparring. Ryunosuke was one of the few immune to Yasushi's sadisim and gluttenous behavior while Yasushi never got heated over Ryunosuke's violent temper or vengeful behavior. Some took notice, but were more afraid of Ryunosuke to even mention the bond. Newcomer Higuchi was the only one who questioned Ryunosuke and told him if Yasushi was bothering him or being pushy that she will take care of it, but instead got rebuffed that she has no right to stick her nose in his business.
When Osamu leaves the Port Mafia, Ryunosuke is of course devastated and hates hearing all the whispers from everyone about Osamu because it reminds him that Osamu saw him as nothing if the man could leave so easily like that. Chuuya is distraught and though he tries to be there for the young lad he's swallowed up in his own grief about it. Yasushi however tends to be something that reassures Ryunosuke--as Yasushi doesn't talk about Osamu and treats it like a normal day. Yasushi just asks if he's up to spar and they end up fighting a long time, for a while Ryunosuke just channeling his rage and grief for Osamu into his attacks. Afterwords, Yasushi is left alone to patch up his injuries while Ryunosuke slinks off without a word, but he appreciates Yasushi more for his possible consideration and this leads to a budding curiousity of the other.
Higuchi is a new recruit and seems smitten by Ryunosuke, but seeing the obvious crush Yasushi has for the same guy as well as Ryunosuke not battering Yasushi away when he comes to talk she gets jealous. She views Yasushi as unstable and asks Ryunosuke if Yasushi bothers him she can get rid of Yasushi if he wants. Ryunosuke gets annoyed she's getting into his business and tells her to keep out. Though not outright stated this implies that Ryunosuke does view Yasushi as a person of value.
During the Armed Detective Agency vs Port Mafia Arc noticeably Yasushi has come alongside the Black Lizard brigade to help Higuchi rescue Ryunosuke. As he padded to Higuchi's side and complimented Higuchi on her bravery, Ryunosuke's eyes for a heartbeat flickered to him and said "So you came." Yasushi stared back as he spoked, "I did, you know I would." "Yes." The moment passed as quickly as it came as Hirotsu pointed out Higuchi's wounds need to be cleaned and Ryunosuke needs to be looked at by professionals immediatly unless both want to bleed to death.
As Ryuunosuke was on the floor, faint, Osamu decided to call Yasushi to come and pick up his "playmate" because he certainly won't bother to do so. In a way, it was Osamu helping Yasushi out, knowing Yasushi was crushing hard on the other, but Ryuunosuke was too much of a hardass to let many in. Yasushi came to pick him up immediately and carried Ryuunosuke to Gin so she could take care of him. Ryuunosuke was never told of this until days after his recovery, and to repay his "playmate" he gave Yasushi a bag of Anpan. Yasushi ate them all in one sitting, to Ryuunosuke's scolding.
Basically after the Cannibalism Arc where Ryuunosuke told Atsushi he would not kill for six months: Yasushi and Ryunosuke seemed to be getting closer and closer. He noticed Ryunosuke never killed on missions anymore and was more irritated than usual, so he decided to simply ask if anything's up. Ryunosuke snarls out why should he ask--is he not interested in Ryunosuke anymore because he's not as violent? Yasushi seems thoughtful but then says "No. You are still you, and you I like." Ryunosuke snorts, but smirks--seeming amused.
