Nilofara lived her early life as part of a small rough and tumble group of Malakhim who mostly kept to the rooves and sewers of Hellawes.  Though they were not overtly cruel, they also weren't particularly nurturing as a bunch either.  They greatly enjoyed playing pranks on the humans that could not see them.  Most of the time, it was small things, like moving items to odd locations.  However, her life as a street rat was put to a halt when one of their pranks resulted in the death of a child.  Not quite wise to the fact that there were humans that possessed “resonance”, she was quickly caught and forced into a pact with an exorcist; her thoughts and will were suppressed in order to turn her into a weapon and tool to control others.
With time, she did regain her sense of self and ability to think for herself, and used it to her advantage.  She waited for her exorcist to be desperate, and revealed her renewed will… as well as her willingness to assist should he release her from the pact. Away she escaped on a ship, and gathered a group of less than morally pristine individuals for crew, starting with some of her old friends in Hellawes.  Arguing that she was the one who brought the ship, she ordained herself the captain of the crew and amicably lead them all down a life of piracy… which wasn't too far from the direction they were heading anyway really.
Due to the fact that most people couldn't see the malakhim, the people began spreading rumors of a notorious ghost ship sailing the seas.
