Oya is the first born of Nirvana and Mahes, granddaughter of Ma di Tau and Leo. She was born during a storm which had frightened the pride, making many wonder what would become of them once she took over as Queen. When she was a cub, she was taunted by her friend to go see what was causing the smoke in the distance. While her friend, named Fujo after the incident, escaped the flames with only a sooty coat, Oya got hot embers in her eyes making her blind. Luckily her father rescued her in time before she perished, but unfortunately her vision was gone.
Oya grew up without her vision and stayed strong through it all, despite the pride members feeling like she would cause ruin upon them. It was an omen from the Guardian they would claim, accusing the royals for allowing Oya to continue with her destiny to become the Queen. Her parents grew restless with the pride's banter, as they were getting older and she would take the throne next. It was decided that the African wild dogs were to be contacted in order to sort this out and speak to the Guardian themselves. It was then determined that Oya would stay as Queen for the Guardian wanted her to do so, but she would need to win over her pride's heart.
