Profile

Born to the noble house Aritain, Dian was sent to the Church of {Redacted] to become an acolyte, as she was the unfortunate offspring of her late father and his still living wife, her family believing that the God's guidance whould prevent her from giving into her more 'darker' nature. Her father having been turned shortly before her conception, he slew himself, unable to reconcile his Vampiric hungers, and her mother did not know she carried his final child until three months into her pregnancy.

The 3rd child and second daughter of the house, her mother, siblings, and relatives distrusted her partially corrupt nature from birth, and she was held to a high standard of conduct and etiquette- a thing which from a young age hurt her emotionally and caused her to resent their control and demands of her. Just so- when she reached the age of 5 she was sent to the church, her family effectively washing their hands of her lest she return 'wholly devoted to the light'.

While her parents expected her to become pious and accept her role and duty as a daughter of their house, Diana at the time forsook their wishes entirely, seeking to prove them wrong and that she was not a 'creature' beholden to it's baser needs- and while she found little comfort in her fellow acolytes she did find comfort in the church's teachings and in their God. It was at this time of forsaking her house that she also cast off her name- instead going by Dian Meliora, altering her given and taking the surname of her goal- to become better.

Raised then on within the church, she did not take well to many of the tasks or long arduios hours of prayer, but rather to the duties of combat, her natural above human strength offering her a decisive edge over many of her peers. So, seeing as she both lacks the aptitude for healing, (much less risking her nature being known so oft near blod) the church leaders set Dian on the path to become a paladin, arming her with a weapon and a purpose- to protect that which the god held dear and to strike down evil in all it's forms. A goal to which suited the young woman just fine.

It was when she had finally reached her majority and her physical aging began to slow that she became a true paladin, hearing and feeling the presence of her God and knowing that she held a place among his people that Dian finally felt a sense of belonging and acceptance. It was also at that time that she met a traveler who went by the name Jesiro. A trader of herbs and seeds, the man was too a follower of the God and sought to stay at the church for a few months as he could not afford prolonged lodgings, and the harsh winter made travel back to his home out of the question. While many of the acolytes found Jesiro's presence a slight annoyance at first, they later began to resent him, as he would interrupt the teachings and prayers to offer 'help', 'corrections' of their actions as while they all followed the same God, "You are not doing it as the God wishes it to be done- My people have been devout far longer than those in this region, so it is only natural these small nuances must have been lost in translation".

While her fellows grew scornful of Jesiro, Dian found him endearing, because he did not scoff at her nature and she genuinely was fascinated by his travels and his methods of worship. It also did not help that Jesiro was genuinely kind to her and flattered her for more than just her combat skills, he complimented her as a woman, a thing that until that point none had even dared to express given her nature. So it was that quickly, Dian was torn- her devotion to her god as a virginal paladin, and the slowly budding love for a man who saw her both as dhampire and woman yet still found her worthy of affection and kindness.

Towards the end of winter that year, Jesiro became more forward, openly courting her affections and eventually, it culminated in her willing seduction. Affirmations of his love for her, Dian gave in when he propositioned her in the temple, his honeyed words how their god would not scorn them for acting on their affections or passions or desires- 'For love is what gives light and life to all of us'.

Needless to say, Dian and Jesiro were caught at the end of their act.

Naked and no longer 'pure' Dian was separated from her lover, and brought before an impromptu tribal who did not hesitate to denounce her and her 'heretical acts' and 'corrupt nature being unfit for the church'. She was promptly ex-communicated that same day- Though as she was being thrown from the church doors, it was Jesiro who caught her and reveled the grand duplicity of his own actions.

Jesiro was but the living Avatar of the God, and as he took his true and holy form, he announced that though the church may abandon Dian, he would not, and in fact, she courted his favor. Taking her away from the stunned elders, Jesiro, now [Redacted] gave Dian her armor as well as a number of her personal belongings- stating that she was more than worthy of his affection and love, and so long as she acted in his name and carried him in her heart, he would not let her fall or falter. Still, the man she loved was gone, for he was after all, but a temporary vessal, and as a God he could not remain among mortals forever. Hurt from the knowledge of loss of her lover and abandonment by the church, Dian still loved the being before her, Jesiro or [Redacted]. Pledging herself once more to his service, she thanked him and swore she would travel and 'seek to make this world a better place'. Before he left her, [Redacted] gave her two gifts- the first being the blessing that she should never know hunger, and the second being the Sun Blade- a weapon that was against her nature but one that she had earned the right to wield.

With the promise that one day he would return to her again, [Redacted] bid her to venture on his behalf, and know that even if her birth and blood was not welcomed, she was still loved and desired by him.

Since then, Dian has been a wandering traveler- a paladin without a church but with a faith and a God, and true enough, no longer suffers from hunger pains for blood and death, (though, she still finds partaking in it enjoyable).

Personality wise, Dian is quick witted, flirtatious, good humored if a bit crass and 'lewd'. She fits in well in many a tavern, and boasts of her strength and natural abilities. Her confidence belies her genuine insecurity with herself and her nature, and often she will express hesitation to intimacy with others because of it. Just so- she is devout and defensive of her God, born of genuine love and admiration of him. Her loyalty is stalwart, and if another should win her allegiance, she is nothing if not stubborn and tenacious in offering her aid.
While not exceptionally bright or fast to read many social cues, Dian is adept at understanding emotions and emotional signals, as well as quick to offer sucor or comfort to those that might need it. What she lacks in smarts she makes up for with passion and strength, and every so often she does get a small spark of solutions as it were. Usually, her knowledge springs from her own experiences and her own passions and desires as well as her natural survival instincts. Despite suppressing her half vampiric nature, it has saved her on occasion and she has grown to accept it and weaponize it as needed- especially when confronted with prejudice not only against herself, but others as well.

Still, she is a product of her hertiage, and can be led into violent rages and blood lust; her human heart and vampire mind fast to seek vengeance or recourse from perceived or actual wrongs. To survive, she learned to be stubborn and emotionally unavailable, and those that can break down that wall are few and far between.

Dian knows that her God will one day appear before her again, as a God keeps their promise. As she was promised a blessing, given her god's dominion, she expects he will one day come and ask her to birth a demi-god and grant her fertility, as she was born infertile. Truthfully, she does not know that her God is still very much still the man who seduced her and held playful banter with her- and will eventually grant her the boon of fertility... in the form of large breasts.

He also intends for Dian to find love among the mortal kind, though if asked, he would remark that she is 'frankly his favorite option for a mortal bride'.

Her holy symbol, her medallion, is the thing she had comissioned for herself- A sunflower on one side, it is her god's symbol. Around it is the celestial script of 'From One, Comes Many); On the other side, is a tomato blossom is engraved, her symbol- it from the nightshade family, is yellow but begets red fruit. Around the flower are three rubies.
