"Without money and power, you ain't nobody."

-Spades

Frank Medici, otherwise known as his mobster nickname Spades, is a casino owner and head of the Saviano family in Hell. He is one of the supporting characters in Hazbin Hotel.

Once one of New York's biggest stars in the world of organized crime, Spades has risen to the top in Hell as the crime boss he's always dreamt of being.

Backstory

Spades was born in 1885 in Brooklyn, NY. He was the oldest of three unnamed siblings, and the son of a doctor and an accountant. His parents pushed him to get a respectable job like they did, but Spades wasn't interested in "boring" jobs like theirs. He knew his true calling was crime. At the age of 17, he did odd jobs for the local mobsters. As he grew older, he was tasked with more dangerous and important jobs. By the time he was 26, he was a made man, a soldato for the Binetti family.

Around his 30s, he became a capo for Don Binetti, and had five of his own soldatos. He was closest to the one named Vinny in particular, the two becoming thick as thieves. Vinny was the one who introduced him to his future girlfriend, Dia. She was a flapper at a club he owned, and she and Spades immediately hit it off. They began dating shortly after, and have been together ever since.

When he was 37, he bought a casino in Brooklyn. Vinny allowed Dia to work for Spades at his casino, performing as a showgirl (though still in her favored flapper attire). Through to his early 40s, he had been living easy. He worked hard for the Binetti family and turned his casino into one of the most popular in the state.

At 42, things took a turn. At his casino, he caught a man cheating during poker games and, worst of all, incessantly hitting on Dia. Spades, being prone to anger, kicked the man out, but not before beating him first. Spades ended up killing the guy, and didn't think much of it. After all, it wasn't his first body he had to bury.

It wasn't until Don Binetti came to him, asking if he knew anything about the disappearance of another family's soldato. Spades pretended not to know. He had broken a vital rule of organized crime: he had killed a made man without permission from the Commission. He'd be a dead man if anyone found out it was him.

His carefree nature had vanished, replaced with paranoia and anxiety. Dia was his rock, always there to help keep him calm (not that he told her why exactly he was so nervous). Wanting a distraction from his potential upcoming death, he decided he was going to marry Dia. He planned on a fancy dinner to propose, and took Dia out. Shortly after they began driving to the restaurant, the car exploded. Both were killed instantly. The second Spades awoke in Hell and learned of his cause of death, he realized how it happened.

The Commission found out it was him who killed that made man, and he'd received his punishment. He wouldn't have been so furious if Dia hadn't also been killed. Spades devoted his new life in Hell to finding out who killed him and, more importantly, his beloved Dia. Then he could get his revenge. He hired a local detective that had the ability to go to the mortal world, and eventually received his answer.

Vinny, his close friend and loyal soldato, was their killer. After a bomb was placed under Spades' car by a specialist, Don Binetti tasked Vinny with following Spades and eventually detonating the bomb. According to the detective, Vinny showed very little remorse and didn't seem troubled by his actions. Spades had hoped that, although it was business, his friend would still feel guilty. He at least wanted him to feel guilty about killing innocent Dia.

He knew he had to kill Vinny. That way, Vinny would be there in Hell with him and he could avenge Dia. As he got involved with the mobsters of Hell, he heard about Demon assassins for hire. That would take care of his issue with getting Vinny sent to Hell, but his other problem was how to kill him once he got there. He learned Demons couldn't die, unless he had an Exorcist weapon. He managed to obtain an Exorcist revolver after finding it lying beside a killed Demon, as Exorcists usually left their weapons behind. Now that he had a weapon capable of killing Demons, he was ready to meet his killer.

He hired I.M.P to do the job, and to bring Vinny to him. He took Vinny to an abandoned warehouse commonly used by fellow mobsters, along with his darling Dia. Together, the couple enacted their revenge on Vinny, starting with an hour-long torture session before finally shooting him with the Exorcist revolver. Now that he'd gotten his revenge, he felt he was finally able to return to the carefree mobster he once was.

He bought one of Hell's casinos and got in close with the Saviano family. Eventually he was made, and over the years became a capo again. He continued to climb the ladder in the family as the years went by. Before he knew it, he was an underboss. He had always dreamed of being a don, and he was finally on his way to becoming one.

After 20 years in Hell, Don Saviano retired from his life of crime. He had no sons in Hell, so the next in line was his underboss, Spades. Spades became the new don of the Saviano family, and has been ever since. To top it all off, he officially married Dia shortly after becoming a boss.

He and his wife Dia live comfortably in Hell, possessing great power, wealth, and their undying love for each other.

Appearance

Spades is 5'8 and has a husky body type. He has dull olive skin, sharp yellow teeth, and a neatly trimmed pencil mustache. His hair is short and black with white streaks on the sides. His sclera are pale yellow while his eyes are bright green. His pupils are spades to reflect his nickname.

He always wears full piece suits, usually colors that correspond with casinos or playing cards. He particularly loves pinstripes, and always makes sure to complete his look with spats.

Personality

Spades is money and power hungry, and very ambitious. He'll stop at nothing to get what he wants, and will gladly get his hands dirty. Since becoming a boss, he has his men do the dirty work for him, but he still loves to do things himself sometimes. He can also be ill-tempered, easily driven to violence. Because of his cause of death, he has a natural distrust in others. He no longer gets close to anybody, particularly those in his own crime family.

Although he's a violent criminal with no interest in friends (unless you prove useful to him), he has a soft side for one person only: his wife Dia.
