Personality: Down-to-Earth, Curious, Jolly, Enthusiastic, Nurturing

Likes: Geology (especially coal), Nature, Travelling with Family, Kids, Teaching

Dislikes: Meetings, Formalities, Long Business Trips

Design Notes:

  • Inspired by peat bogs and coal
  • Antennae and wings are reed leaves (very thin, with sharply tapered tips)
  • Back left leaf-wing is bent in half
  • Relatively small, with a blocky build
  • Dark tufts on ears, joints and feet

Character Notes:

  • He's one of the world's leading experts in coal geology!
  • He really hates meetings. He finds them boring and pretentious. When a meeting goes over schedule or gets too stuffy, he starts making passive-aggressive disruptions to try and hurry things along.
  • He much prefers the education and field work parts of his job. He loves getting his students excited about geology! That's the part of his job that's kept him from retiring.
  • He also loves getting his grandkids (and their friends, and his friends' grandkids, and random kids at the local nature camp, etc.) excited about science, geology or otherwise! His job description may not include working with kids, but he loves working with kids enough to do it for free any time.
  • When he's not doing geology things, he can usually be found bird-watching with his wife or helping tend to their native plant garden.
  • He's very sentimental and still has a lot of his (now middle-aged) kids' old toys from when they were little in his house, along with various souvenirs he picked up on his travels. He's not a hoarder, though -- he doesn't keep everything, just a few special keepsakes.
  • In addition to raising their four kids, Peat and his wife helped raise three of their grandkids because one of their kids wasn't up for raising their kids alone after a rough divorce. Good thing Peat loves kids so much!!
