梅花 méi huā - plum blossom

One of the Heavenly Qilin, old as time itself, and a genderless being who can take on many forms. The year Meihua was born is lost to the sands of time, and many of their original memories along with it.

Then 🌸

Once upon a time, many hundreds of years ago, Meihua was a young Qilin living in a world under the rule of the Divine Dragons. Although many despised the royal family's reign - none moreso than the righteous cultivators - life under the Dragons' rule was not bad for most: especially the mythical beings who lived in seclusion like the peaceful Qilin. In ancient times, the Divine Dragons and Heavenly Qilin were evenly matched and held a close alliance, with many arranged marriages even being made between the two races. By the time Meihua was old enough to venture off on their own, however, the Qilin and Dragon bloodlines had eventually weakened to the point they were shells of their former glory.

Meihua was a curious and carefree pup, and spent most of their days frolicking and playing without a care in the world. They were a natural genius with immense aptitude at birth, with little need to actually cultivate. Transforming in and out of their Qilin form was as simple as breathing, and the world was largely at peace so there was no need to train.

With the Qilin and Dragons once having been close families, the Thousand Mirrors Forest (visual) was once a popular meeting place for lovers, but in recent years had become uninhabited. It was both deserted and safe, due to powerful illusive arrays placed on it in ancient times, making it Meihua's favorite place to loll around.

One day, the heir to the royal family - Feiyu - found Meihua playing there, and the two quickly became friends. In return for Feiyu keeping their presence a secret and allowing Meihua to continue staying in the forest, Meihua agreed to become his private master and friend.

The two spent many years together in the forest, with Feiyu visiting whenever he had time to spare. Meihua would sometimes disappear for months at a time, travelling the lands in disguise, but would always make their way back to the forest. Over the years they became very close, and Meihua came to see Feiyu as a precious little brother and friend.

Eventually, tensions rose between the royal family and the cultivation world and righteous cultivators began rebelling against the Divine Dragons, leading to an inevitable war. Meihua, quite isolated from the outside world at this point, was not aware of the fighting until it reached the forest. This realization came when the forest was enveloped in a protective array, alongside Feiyu's palace, and by then it was too late for Meihua to escape the array. Unbenknownst to them, a small group of cultivators had already entered the forest before the array was placed, and were already prepared to deal with the illusive arrays of the forest itself. While Feiyu and his forces fought in the palace, Meihua was attacked by the cultivators under the assumption of being an ally to the royal family.

Having no real combat knowledge and panicking, Meihua was easily overpowered by the weaker humans. After being beaten into submission by the cultivators, one of them towered over Meihua's cowering form and suggested keeping the weakened Qilin as a cauldron (info). Although Meihua was innocent of the ways of the world and did not know what a cauldron meant, they knew the intentions were wicked. With a terrified scream, their qi burst out with a blinding light, easily overpowering and defeating the human cultivators. Their qi depleted and spiritual core damaged from the detonation, Meihua passed out on the verge of death.

Feiyu would soon find Meihua after the attack, and attempt to heal their dying body with his divine blood. At the same time that Feiyu's blood was healing their weakened body, Meihua's heavenly blood was transferring immense spiritual power into Feiyu's core, not unlike a medicinal pill or elixir. As Meihua's body was recuperating, Feiyu gently placed them in the healing waters of the lake and left to finish the rest of the cultivators now entering the forest.

Between the divine blood now rushing through their veins and the accelerated healing of the spring water, Meihua was able to gain consciousness as lightning raged in the distance. After having suffered a traumatic life or death experience, as well as their core being partially-detonated and almost destroyed, Meihua's memories had become hazy. All they knew was that this place was not safe, and so they fled, not knowing who they were leaving behind.

Now ❄️

After the fall of the Divine Dragons, the once obscure Heavenly Qilin now became deities to the mortals, seen as auspicious mythical beings who would lead the world into a brighter future. Though the Qilin did try to protect the world and spread many blessings, they were not respected nor adored by all. Greedy human poachers, demons, and demonic cultivators only saw Qilin as a means to lining their pockets and accelerating their cultivation, and thus began hunting whatever Qilin they could find. Although the Qilin were once almost godlike beings, their powers had diminished over the years and many were overtaken by the wicked hunters. Eventually the remaining Qilin, fearful for their own lives, fled from the lands they were once protectors of and ascended to the heavenly realm... but not all.

Meihua, ever the one to stay out of affairs, remained in the mortal realm. Having been warned by their siblings before their ascension, Meihua erected a powerful illusive array around the path leading up their mountaintop. Against blistering cold winter winds, magical winter plum trees are hidden behind illusive arrays, awakening only for those with Qilin blood to lead them to the estate. High atop the mountain, where it is always snowing and the winter plum blossoms float delicately through the bitter cold wind, lies the Baiyun Long ("White Cloud Dragon") Manor (visual).

While Meihua nurtures and teaches their new disciples, Xue Lian and Yue Binghua, a lone dragon soars the skies continuing its search.
