Vice

Vice is an extremely considerate lion, always taking the time to think about his pride before making decisions and only making decisions that will ultimately benefit them rather than himself. This trait ensures that Vice always respects other lions’ feelings, opinions and beliefs and encourages him to lead in a lawful manner, in order to avoid becoming a corrupt king. Unfortunately for Vice, however, his consideration and respect also discourage him from questioning the motives of other lions, enabling others to easily take advantage of him through his overly trusting nature. Similarly, his overly trusting nature leads to him being quite naïve to many of the horrors of life. This naivety results in Vice having a lack of courage in certain situations, particularly those in which he is not in control or situations that are new to him, as he has quite a bit of anxiety in situations like that.

Vice’s biggest dream is to raise healthy, successful, and ambitious cubs, and to teach them the ways of purity and lawfulness. He wants to be the father that he never had to his cubs. Vice’s father was an absent father in his life, which he does not want for his cubs. The lack of a father figure for Vice made his youth and upbringing challenging for him. He had no one to teach their ways of life to him. On the other hand, Vice strives to pass down every fragment of his wisdom to his cubs, for one day his successors will rule the land of Neve as he is. Vice will be able to give his cubs what he never had and forge righteous successors from them. His cubs will learn to be considerate, respectful, and lawful, all in preparation to be righteous and pure to assume the mantle of king.

Vice’s biggest fear is water, especially water that is so deep that light cannot touch the waterbed. The mere thought of being exposed to creatures of the deep that have remained unseen for the entirety of their existence, and not being able to swiftly make it to safety is a thought that keeps him from slumber. This is due to Vice fearing what he cannot see and does not know. Unknown, alien creatures lurk at depths lions cannot even begin to imagine. Being in a situation where they can move faster and see what Vice cannot is an even more terrifying thought. Vice does not know what creatures would decide to hunt him without a second thought, and if these aquatic monsters wanted to hunt him, would he know he is being hunted before it is too late? He would not be able to swim fast enough to get away from immediate danger if it were to arise in the water

The name ‘Vice’ is Latin for corruption. This corresponds to the darkness and fissures affecting Vice’s paws and legs. A supposed curse was cast on Vice when he was still in his mother womb. The supposed curse was discovered to be the Verwelken curse, a curse that twists morals of those with pure hearts. The Verwelken curse was put on him by a shaman from another pride in order to doom the pride. The intention of the curse is to corrupt the future king, which is now vice, and will make him more susceptible to immorality. Vice halts the progress of the Verwelken curse with his purity and lawful actions. It is said that the curse cannot be lifted, however, Vice remains hopeful at heart that his purity will be strong enough to defeat the curse one day. In his eyes, that will crown him the true king of Neve.

Vice values righteousness more than others due to his role as king of Neve and the effects of Verwelken curse has on him. Vice has been destined to become the greatest ruler of Neve before he was even brought into the world, and he strives to uphold the values he has been fated to represent. However, being hexed with the Verwelken curse, Vice must endorse these values more than ever. The spread of the curse is halted by acts of righteousness, and with enough may reverse the effects. From a young cub, lions sought Vice for his leadership and valor, as he already had what it took to be able to govern the pride of Neve. Vice was always chosen to oversee the pride whilst the lionesses were on a hunt, and he was never one to disappoint. He has many years of rule to come and he is more than ready.

Vice’s biggest secret is that he was responsible for his other brother’s death. Vice’s second brother, Bror, disappeared whilst under his watch. Vice was in charge of babysitting his brothers Brim and Bror whilst his mother was out on a hunt with the other lionesses. He wanted to work on training with his brothers, however the weather became dark and foul faster than Vice anticipated, but in Vice’s eyes, training was a necessity for the royal family. Lightning lit up the sky and thunder could be heard from the other side of the valley. Bror was scared out of his skin by the thunder and lightning and tried to retreat to shelter. Vice and Brim were unable to find Bror back in the den. Lions tried to find Bror for days and nights to no avail. To this day, Vice still feels despair from the responsibility of his brother’s loss.
