Ansel may look cute and friendly most of the time but he is in reality quite the opposite. He doesn't take to new people very easily and he's very standoffish. He's also very distrusting due to his past experiences with getting close to people; having been betrayed in the past by a lover. However once he warms up to someone, and if he decides he likes them, he will defend them with his life. He's very protective of his family and will literally kill for them.
Additionally due to the nature of his species he is a natural hunter and this often shows in his past times as a pirate. Being engaged to a vampire pirate he often goes on killing sprees and sometimes even delights in drinking blood with his partner. Though this was significantly effected after his children were born. While he has no plan of being a picture perfect example of morals he does wish to set a good example for his children.
Background
Ansel was born the prince of the central siren kingdom of Anatalia. Growing up he dealt with major depression and axienty, leaving him vulnerable to a mental breakdown. After his younger sister's untimely death, his boyfriend and closest friend convinced him that she died because of her parents negelct and lack of love for her. This caused him to snap mentally and murder his parents in cold blood.
After murdering his parents he fled the kingdom to avoid prosecution but was chased by the very boy whom convinced him of his parents' guilt. In his flight he swam into a fishing net and became entangled beyond escape. The sirens found him but decided to leave him for humans to find and use to their sadistic needs for it would be 'a worse punishment than the sirens could give'. However shortly after he was found and rescued by the pirate captain Jorlais Finch and welcomed into his crew.

Summary
After being brought aboard the Night Raider, Jorlais' ship, he was welcomed into the crew as a way to pay back his debt for being saved. Jorlais summoned an old friend, whom happened to be the Witch Goddess, and had her to give Ansel the ability to shift between his natural siren form and a human form. Though he could only remain human and out of the water for an extended amount of time before he had to shift back and go back to the water.
After serving alongside Jorlais for a while he began to fall in love with the pirate. They began a romantic relationship and remained loyal to each other for three years. That is until they fished a runaway prince out of the ocean. After saving Prince Zander's life they kept him around to be their personal attendant while they considered turning him in for a reward. However they both began to have feelings for him; first Jorlais and Ansel shortly after. They then entered into a polyamourous relationship with him and allowed him to stay on the ship.
Trivia
- Male sirens, on some rare occasions, have the ability to bare children. Because of this Ansel has bore the twin children of his lovers Jorlais and Zander.
- Sirens often keep the female's name in heterosexual married relationships. Therefore the royal Xavier bloodline is that of his mother's.
- Every monster species has an 'alpha' or descendant of the first. Alphas have heightened (and sometimes even additional) skills of their species. Ansel's mother had been the last known Alpha and when she died he inherited the title; unbeknownst to him.
- Due to the traditionally female dominated population it was looked down upon for two male sirens to be romantically involved. Over the years this translated into general homophobia. Because of these beliefs Ansel almost lost his position in line for the throne when he came out as homosexual.
