Milkgaze wasn't born blind, but it slowly set in during her apprenticeship. At first, she didn't tell anyone she was having vision problems, and that unfortunately resulted in her being unable to rescue her first mentor. When she had to come back and report his death, she also finally admitted she couldn't see. She was assigned a new mentor, but was left feeling like the death was her fault. Way later into her warrior career, she heard of another warrior losing an eye and struggling with the lack of sight, and she approached to offer to help. They agreed, and as the two trained they eventually fell in love.
