Carissa

Carissa is the 3rd duke of New Grimslow (also known as New Grim's Hollow, or simply 'Grim's'), and the youngest son of Leander and Eden Attor. Like the rest of the Attor family and New Grimslow as a whole, Carissa has a bad reputation with other nations in Olisandia, due to the heavy controversy surrounding the Attor family, along with Grim's naturally poor living conditions and dark history. However, he is capable as a leader, and is thus looked upon favorably by the community within the province he rules over. He wishes to redeem his family and his people through any means necessary.

Personality :  Carissa is quick to come off as incredibly pretentious and classist. He seems to look down upon those who do not share a similar rank, wealth, or social status to himself. A closer look at his general treatment and disposition towards others would show that while he isn't entirely friendly and prefers to keep his relations professional, he does value those ranked below him -- particularly the people of Grimslow, which he defends with a strong sense of pride. However, he does hold some bitterness towards those who he feels unfairly criticize his family and their people that is evident in his actions, which has caused him to make some immature judgements in the past that showed his age as a young ruler. Although his intentions are far from malicious, he is well aware of the differences between himself and those of lower--and higher--social classes, and takes great care in using proper etiquette for every situation to avoid sullying his family's name further. He is prone to anxiety when things fall out of order, has a penchant for using big words that he thinks make him seem more intelligent (they only make him difficult to understand), thinks he can write good poetry (he cannot), and struggles with his major weakness for desserts.

Abilities :  Unlike most species of dragon in Olisandia, Carissa is not particularly skilled in magic. Instead, he relies on the powerful necrotic venom his body produces that can be sprayed from his retractable fangs, like that of a spitting cobra, or injected into prey when bitten. His uniquely structured face and necrosed limbs are present due to his unusually potent venom capable of harming even his own species over time, which can only be achieved when breeding two of the same species of toxin-producing dragon together. Unfortunately, due to the same cranial deformations which gave him his peculiar appearance, trace amounts of the toxins leak out of his venom glands and into his bloodstream, slowly accumulating and eventually causing serious harm to his body. Currently this is most evident in his hands and arms. He is the least damaged of his siblings, and has such taken over their duties as the last child of Eden and Leander who is capable of performing them. He hides the damage to his arms from his family because he is afraid that once he succumbs and is bedridden, his family will never recover their pride.

The area where the province of New Grimslow stands today originally housed a large scale underground prison most frequently known as Grim's Hollow. The prison was built to contain criminals whose biological toxicity level (ex. toxin-producing dragons and some varieties of swamp elf) was so high that they would become a serious danger to inmates and wardens if they were to be housed in traditional prison facilities. The facility was considered controversial by some, due to the fact that it was difficult to judge whether or not a crime was intentionally committed, or if the individuals imprisoned were cast away due to factors outside of their control. The region surrounding Grim's Hollow suffered over time, heavily polluted by the high concentration of toxins in the air. Wild creatures attracted to the smell of the waste settled in within the caves and surrounding areas of the prison, making the area dangerous to traverse. The inmates took advantage of the region's collapse and eventually succeeded in a massive prison break, letting hundreds upon thousands of criminals back into society. However, with their newfound power as a group and the accumulated pollution working as a natural fortress, many of the prisoners chose to stay within the region and form a unified community. Later, after much conflict, Eden and Leander's parents saw potential in the region and sought to rule over the territory. That territory is known in current time as New Grimslow.

Leander and Eden - Leander and Eden are the parents of Mavis, Rilane and Carissa Attor. They were forced by their family to marry against their will in an attempt by the 1st Duke to create more powerful offspring, fully aware of the risks that came with producing offspring between two venomous dragons. The pair are cousins and were raised like close siblings from early on in their lives, so they have no desire to be lovers. However, they must pretend to remain a couple lest their family does something to put their children in danger.

While Carissa does hold some resentment towards his parents, he understands the circumstances of their marriage and thinks that it was truly beyond their help. He believes that the only way to give them (and himself) freedom from guilt is to work towards a brighter future and prevent the same acts of greed and lust for power among their family members from happening a second time, and is willing to give his life for that cause.

Rilane and Mavis - Rilane and Mavis are Carissa's older twin siblings. They are currently bedridden, forced to succumb to the crippling necrotic wounds that have consumed their bodies. Growing up, Carissa was fiercely protective of the pair, even before they showed any signs of disease. Because of his behavior towards them he was often jokingly referred to as their older brother, despite being so much smaller. When he was a young boy he protected Rilane in an accident that could have taken her life, resulting in the large scar across his chest. He continues to have a close relationship with his siblings, with Rilane and Carissa sharing a particularly strong bond. His love of sweets is something he shares with her, and the reason he is fond of lemon tea is because they would always drink it together.
