“I’m Mochrie,” he offered, and drew his hand back to his daggers. "No special titles."

Name Mochrie

Species Suid (Boar)

Age 30

Pronouns he/him/his

Background non-mage

Height 8hh (5'5")

Mochrie is a book smuggler-- specifically, of magical texts and tomes restricted by the Order, or even from Namarast itself. As a non-mage, he initially had little to do with the political climate surrounding mages; however, after seeking help for his condition from the Order and receiving none, but granted aid by Wild mages, he feels it is only right to repay his healers in kind with the knowledge they need to help themselves.

Mochrie is blunt, a bit worn, and dark-humored. Having suffered for most of his life, and on the receiving end of much scrutiny, he finds humor in peculiar places, and believes that delicate conversation is anything but a necessity. He does, however, have a gentler side-- he absolutely loves his cat.

History

Mochrie was born in Mead, far from Faline, as the only child of his two parents. From birth he was afflicted with a skeletal deformity, causing an arched back, twisted spine, and misaligned shoulders and pelvis, resulting in an off-beat gait, limited mobility, and chronic pain-- as well as the scorn or bias of others. For much of his life he worked as a bookseller, and sometimes aided in libraries.

Searching for a way to live comfortably, Mochrie sought out mages to help him, first contacting the Order so close to where he was raised. When the Order mages turned him down and refused to help, telling him that there was no real way to aid him, he continued his search, finding support in the Wild mages of Ivras.

Realizing that the Wild mages had limited access to education, and thus the help they needed, he chose to repay them for their aid, and began a life of book smuggling-- pocketing magical texts and tomes restricted by the Order and delivering them to those who deserved them.

Bonds

Allies, enemies, & others

▸ Bramble

Mochrie's cat, Bramble, was saved as a kitten from a cold storm. Mochrie kept Bramble warm and raised him from kittenhood; Bramble also tends to invite neighborhood feline friends to Mochrie's apartment. Mochrie, of course, always gives them all bowls of broth and lights the hearth.

▸ Ioeth

Having initially met through unfortunate circumstances involving abduction & blight wights, Mochrie became very close with Ioeth, eventually coming to view them as his closest friend, at least in his eyes. Ioeth is the only person Mochrie would give his life for.

▸ Lasair

Though not particularly fond of each other, nor with quite the same goals in mind, Mochrie nonetheless has a sense of respect for Lasair, and was a key player in a major event in her life-- breaking her fiance out of prison.

▸ Atreus

Initially met by happenstance during a heist of Mochrie's, Atreus eventually became a companion to Mochrie through a tangled mess of nonsense events during an absolutely terrible rainstorm neither will forget. More than anything, Mochrie sees Atreus as amusing, humorous, and extremely fun to be around.

▸ Vilas

Nearly a decade ago, Mochrie began working as a librarian's assistant in Namarast; at that same time, a young boy enrolled in the school, lost and alone. Over the course of several years at Namarast, Mochrie and Vilas bonded, with Mochrie representing an older brother figure to the young and impressionable Vilas.
