Koa was risen in a small tribal colony, before being tricked by a kitsune playing the role of a local. She tricked him and his brother into servitude aboard a pirate ship. During his years aboard he eventually got a chance at earning his freedom. It was the pirate Koroe, who tricked him, that offered him a chance to free Koa and his brother.
To this day Koa set out to fuffill his end of the bargain. He and Koroe have a bitersweet relationship. They aren't bitter enemies but they aren't quite friends either.
