"The Fox's Oubliette". -- About

From the very beginning, Fuyuhiko is a pleasant and sociable individual. He's polite to a fault, typically embracing the formalities of his culture - and though he has very little to offer people, he does his best to be accommodating despite the fact he's so distanced from the vast majority. In conversation, he tries to maintain a light sense of humour; he's playful, and can often be a little arrogant, but his words are never cruel and any misunderstandings are often simply because he isn't used to dealing with people very regularly at all and some of the nuances of relating to more modern folk are completely lost on him. He always owns up to his faults and likes to strive for self-betterment, and his attentiveness means he can often tell when he's done something wrong that he must hold himself accountable for. Though, if he makes too many mistakes he can often end up second-guessing himself and his own capability.

Fuyuhiko is, fundamentally, a very gentle soul. Unless provoked directly or required to protect himself, he avoids violence and conflict adamantly and prefers to take on confrontations with words and understanding; he often displays great kindness and care to those around him, happily sharing what little he has with humans or animals that need it. His existence is very simple, lacking in material belongings and often getting by for food or creature comforts through trading and favours with the people of nearby Inazuma City. Fuyuhiko is creative at heart and never lost his talent for parasol dancing or his fascination with the arts; he likes to see the world through the eyes of others by way of visual art and storytelling, and any who find themselves sharing his shrine on a rainy day will end up having to recount to him the experiences they've had in return for his shelter. He's especially fascinated by stories of lands far beyond Inazuma.

Though he's young in face, Fuyuhiko's age is betrayed in his world-weary demeanour and often old-fashioned way of speaking. He's curious about the modern world and inexperienced with its ways. Because of the nature of his existence - both his old age and the fact that he shares his body with a malicious and cruel spirit - Fuyuhiko struggles with the idea of getting close to anyone. Part of him doesn't feel worthy of it, and another part imagines it might be too dangerous for any human that he dares become too involved with. Because he doesn't know how long his life will wear on for, Fuyuhiko is afraid that he'll have to watch people he cares about die over and over again thanks to the limits of their mortality - and though he trusts the Vision he was granted will keep the nogitsune spirit within him from causing any more harm, Fuyuhiko remains permanently in a state of worry that she'll manage to overcome the Vision's divine power someday and that she'll make him act out and commit horrors against his will once more.

His concern is not completely unfounded either - when Fuyuhiko's body is weak, Blood-Spattered Tsuna can struggle against the suppressive power of the Vision and can temporarily gain control. To prevent this, Fuyuhiko does his best to remain well-rested and fed for as long as he can. On top of this, recent concerns regarding the Shogun's Vision Hunt Decree have left him in a difficult place - if the Shogunate soldiers come around and try to confiscate his Vision, their success could mean the freedom of Blood-Spattered Tsuna or the possibility of her taking possession of his body once again. Thus, Fuyuhiko tries to stray away from them as much as possible when he has to draw closer to the city and has learned to use a sword in order to defend himself, should their relentless pursuit of Visions lead them to turn weapons against him.

Appearance

With a height of 5'8 ( 172 cm ) and a shapeless, thin figure, Fuyuhiko doesn't resemble a warrior in the slightest despite his possession of both a Cryo Vision and a sword. He stopped aging physically at 19 years old, and still maintains his youthful visage despite the centuries he's lived through. He sports a pale olive complexion, a small heart-shaped face and a thin nose; the most notable feature of his face is his rather narrowed almond eyes, with double-eyelids and slender brows. Though they were a charcoal grey colour in his youth, the presence of the fox spirit within his body has since seen them turn to a bright and bloody red colour - should the day ever come that he's freed of this curse, they would return to that natural colour once more. Fuyuhiko's eyes are accentuated with dusky orange makeup in a traditional style resembling kabuki costume. His hair is a warm red-brown colour, lightly curled and often unruly, parting to his left and longer on the right side where he ties it with a long red braided cord.

Though it isn't often to occur, one can tell Blood-Spattered Tsuna is in control of their shared body because those red eyes will seem to glow with an unnerving, eerie light.

Additional

  • Fuyuhiko was initially a resident of Inazuma City, born to a poverty-stricken family living on its outskirts.

  • He was once possessed by the spirit of a malicious nogitsune - a kitsune not allied with the Kitsune Saiguu, who resents pathetic humans and sees them as little more than toys to play with and break. Named 'Blood-Spattered Tsuna' by the locals of Inazuma City, the people she haunted relentlessly, for the violent things she would drive people to do while under her spell, she is now trapped inside Fuyuhiko's body by the Vision he keeps on his person at all times.

  • Fuyuhiko has a Cryo Vision, granted to him for his struggle against the nogitsune spirit that had possessed him and intended to see him condemned to death. He actually has little interest in his Vision or the elemental powers that come with it, instead viewing the Vision as a lock that simply keeps Blood-Spattered Tsuna in check.

  • He is a sword user; his combat ability is something he picked up more recently as a means of defending himself. This has become especially vital with the introduction of the Vision Hunt Decree. As he's not skilled in combat, he can be a little sloppy in his moves. He uses his parasol alongside his blade.

  • Fuyuhiko's constellation is Argentea Cavea, the Silver Cage. His constellation represents his physical status as a cage for the nogitsune spirit so well-known for causing great harm, but also the cage his situation has placed him in - his body is both a cage for Blood-Spattered Tsuna, and for himself, as it cannot age or die and thus he's forced to keep living in order to protect the people of Inazuma from that once-infamous youkai.

  • While possessed by Blood-Spattered Tsuna, Fuyuhiko was driven to eat the nobleman that employed him alive - the discovery of him, bloodied, with a half-eaten corpse led to the chain of events that granted him his Vision. However, the experience was highly traumatic to Fuyuhiko - who was completely conscious but unable to control his body for the whole thing - and ever since, the smell of blood and the taste and texture of meat make him feel extremely sick.
He doesn't particularly benefit from Blood-Spattered Tsuna's presence within him. Aside from his longevity, all he seems to have gained is an obsession with fried tofu ( especially in inarizushi ) and a more keen sense of smell than any regular human.

Blood-Spattered Tsuna has an affinity for Pyro magic, though it isn't particularly strong or divinely-earned in the way a Vision is. Fuyuhiko himself doesn't have the ability to tap into this power, but their shared body can wield it in short bursts when Tsuna is able to reclaim control.

Blood-Spattered Tsuna

The nogitsune spirit within Fuyuhiko's body. The two have never had direct contact with each other, and thus Fuyuhiko doesn't really understand Tsuna or her motivations. However, he has deliberated for the longest time on her actions and how they've affected the course of his life; though he is her jailer, she is also his jailer in return. Fuyuhiko looks down on Tsuna as though she were just an unfortunate charge under his watch - hatred of her has long since died out in the many years he's been alive and sharing a body with her.
