Allegedly was changed into his current form by a magic cave he currently lives in. He actually likes being this way. Eager to make new friends, he lets his guard down easily, this leads to him getting hurt a lot. There's the giant hostile bugs that were already in the cave; scared humans who wander in and try to "defend themselves" not realizing that he's not a threat; and the other changed beings not knowing their new strength. He got more used to seeing his face covered in bandages than not; now he mostly just wears them out of habit. He also decided to cover his pincers and 3-pronged stinger just to make it extra clear to people that he doesn't plan on using them. His willingness to throw himself into danger for the sake of "friendship" has led others to assume he's some kind of masochist. It's not that he likes pain, it's just that he'd rather get hurt than be alone.

He's apparently "best friends" with the cave itself, it seems.
