parents died in a barn fire when he was 9, he was stuck surviving on his own as he had no other blood relatives
soul was split in two as a child after stealing fruit from local witch Agatha Belronne’s orchard, and ended up “doubling”, creating his “twin” cyrus. they both shift into a dog-beast according to the sun (he shifts at sundown, cyrus shifts at sunrise)
people in his village believe the large black dog they spot at night to be the cause of a sickness slowly creeping in, causing children of the town to die
they also believe the large white dog hunters have spotted in the woods in the early mornings to be proof of Lady Light coming to assist them with their troubles!!
