Basics

     Derek stands at 6'1", weighing in around 175lbs - most of which is muscle. Currently his left eye is Gold and his right has turned into a pale Blue. Previously both of his eyes were Gold. His hair is silky straight and a dark navy blue, reaching to his neck and consistantly messy. He also has a scar above his right eye, 3 scars from bullet wounds on his chest, as well as one on his left shoulder. Often he is seen wearing an eye patch over his right eye.
      As for piercings, he has one in each earlobe and one cartilage piercing in his upper right ear; he usually wears simple silver earrings. At a young age he was given a large upper back tattoo of a Dragon holding a skull, something he normally hides from others.

Summary

Derek was born to an American Navy Officer who had been posted in Japan. His mother was a Japanese whore with ties to the Yakuza. She hardly raised him, and more or less just had him survive on his own. From a very young age he mingled with unsavory types and was often exposed to violence, sex and criminal activity. So it wasn't surprising that he was initiated at the age of 9 into the Yakuza. The Boss having taken a liking to the fatherless boy and deciding to take him under his wing, Derek quickly rose in ranks. By the time he was 16 he had become the Boss' right hand man despite his youth. At that time he entered high school and made friends with a rather straight laced guy named Keith. He didn't tell him much about his secrets, but it was as if Keith saw right through him. It didn't take long before the two were inseparable and he started to stray from the Yakuza lifestyle and the family he was involved in. Not to mention the drugs he had been hooked on.
 
By his 17th birthday, his subordinates started to doubt him; one of which planned to overthrow his status. Needless to say there was an  in-gang fight which resulted in Derek killing his competition. The Boss though, had begun to notice him stray and told him he needed to cut ties with Keith or his friend would end up dead in a ditch. He ignored his orders, only for it to almost cost Keith his life. Enraged, Derek finally saw that this man who had practically raised him really didn't  give a shit about him. Derek was a pawn – nothing more. So during one last drug fueled night, he ended up killing the Family Boss; doing it so perfectly that he never got caught and it was assumed the man was assassinated by another gang.  
 
Derek, no longer under the man's thumb was able to clean himself up and ultimately leave the Yakuza with Keith's help. Though not before having the tattoo on his back done. Many thought that it was dedicated to the old man's life – but really it represented the Derek's murderous truth.  
 
Because he had never accrued a criminal history and worked only in the shadows, Derek was able to follow Keith into the Police Academy, and ultimately the two became Police Officers. 5 years later, and they have become detectives. When he was 22 he went on a house raid that resulted in him getting attacked and receiving a serious head wound that almost killed him. When he was finally healed enough and woke up in the hospital, they unbandaged his head only to discover that Derek's right eye had been affected. It had turned pale blue, and was extremely sensitive to light. In the dark though, he found he was able to see perfectly. Thankfully this didn't hinder him and he was able to continue his career.
 
 
While Derek still hides his previous life – there are those who still hunt him, whether it be because they suspected the truth, consider him a traitor to the Yakuza for becoming a Police Officer, or simply still think of him as dangerous competition. A legend to defeat. He's also wanted by the government for his heinous crimes, but they only know the alias "Golden Devil" and the trail has been cold for years.
