Personality

Nona could accurately be described as eccentric. Loving the unusual and uncommon, she has an appreciation for things outside of the ordinary, especially things which are complex in any way. She likes learning everything about something, and the more to learn, the better.

This is clear from the way Nona speaks, the alias she presents herself with, and the way she dresses. Easily the most identifiable thing about her is that she likes being gothic. She'd never willingly be seen without her signature, unique dresses.

Potentially even more important is the one-way cloth brought down in front of her face, since she can see others, but they can't see her. Nona is very private, and has great self-control when it comes to not divulging her secrets. Though she will joke or drop hints about being a vampire or someone else, (Tara Gilesbie, for instance. Some name she made up) she loves the air of mystery she can keep about herself.

She's also, perhaps, a bit entitled. She doesn't pay much thought to her future or the consequences of her actions. Someone her age, or in her situation, has much better things to do than play around with dresses and look for things that don't exist, but she doesn't care. It's fun, and interesting, and exciting, so why not do it? She laughs at things that aren't jokes, and is bad at noticing the seriousness of any situation. When things don't go her way, she tends towards amusement rather than anything else, but she'll struggle with the idea that they didn't deserve to go her way, or that other people don't have it so easy.

Upsetting her is either impossible, or very easy, depending on what it is. For example, she'd never crumble to taunts about her appearance or personality or blindness. But have to touch a texture she doesn't agree with? Arguing with her that supernatural beings don't exist? So much as look at something she considers ugly? Nona turns sour quickly, and her cheeky, loud demeanour becomes irate and teary-eyed. Tantrums are less common now, but don't expect her to not wave her arms and shout a little.

She's smart, and highly skilled, but doesn't understand the concept of money very well, and overall will struggle with simple tasks others have no problem with. For example, tying her shoes or cooking. Metaphorically speaking (and literally) she can navigate almost anywhere in town with just her cane. The problems arise when she needs to be somewhere or find something specific.

Skills

Ability: My immortal

The ability to create images or sounds which insert her likeness into the viewer's mind, For example, she can consume them with thoughts of her. She can vary the strength of this, and at its strongest, the person is catatonic. Alternatively all "people" may be replaced with instances of her - people seen on the street, or loved ones buried in the deepest memories, will be believed to be her. The effect lasts a few days, fading with time, but will end immediately if all copies of the image are destroyed. Audio versions end immediately as long as the sound isn't playing anywhere in the world. The effect transmits digitally.

Nona almost comes close to knowing everything there is to know about the average computer and computer system. She has strong skills in hardware and software repair, and with sharp analysis skills and knowledge of cybersecurity and how servers work, her hacking abilities are incredible. She's skilled enough at concealing herself digitally that her identity is unknown despite how her ability draws attention to her.

With so long spent in her condition, she's very used to using a cane, and has honed her hearing. She has good nerves - familiar with things suddenly jumping into her range of vision, things don't tend to scare her unless they're really close.

History

Nona's grandfather made billions emigrating to the US and founding a company to sell the reserves of oil on his land in his home country of Iran. He and his son's shrewd business sense helped to grow the company into what it is today - an international conglomerate that puts almost anything from air freshener to ready-cooked meals on the shelves. From birth, as the only heir to the company, Nona has had just about everything she's wanted.

She herself was born with optic nerve hypoplasia, and has been legally blind all her life; objects more than five feet away are almost imperceptible by her, and she will struggle to read books and use devices at the font size everyone else would use. Growing up, the limits imposed on her by her body, and her differences from others, frustrated her. Tantrums were a usual, and her father couldn't bring himself to use too much anger or punishment to control her.

At 7, Nona was diagnosed with autism, and her repetitive behaviour and obsessive interests suddenly made sense. The regular maids at the mansion where she lived were replaced with specialists, who could prevent her being overwhelmed or overstimulated.

At 8, she starting channelling all of her energy into using the computer bought for her education. With an adjustable display, she felt closer to the world than ever before - she could bring so much information just inches from her face. She started learning everything about it there was to know, and as a bright child privately tutored from a young age, she could almost be considered a prodigy.

Her mother died just three years later, in a car accident. Nona was sad, but mostly briefly and distantly in the way only children can be. Her father was someone she never saw very much of - work and fame was always important, after all - but after the accident, the few nights a week spent with her turned into one day a fortnight. She didn't mind this a huge amount, either. Especially since he still gave her as much money as she asked for.

Of most concern to her was the funeral. There was just something about the sombre, dark figures that caught her eye. She tried to research it when she got home, and stumbled upon "goths". They were so different from everything she knew about other people. It was fascinating. Vampires were especially interesting. Of course they were present in cartoons and games, but they were just vaguely spooky - she'd never thought they dressed like this, and their immortality interested her, too.

She came out as agender, preferring to be referred to with she pronouns. She started dressing in custom gothic lolita, proclaiming she drank blood, and decorating her room and eventually the rest of the mansion with "satanic imagery" (not that she was satanist, it was just the aesthetic.) She made her hacker moniker "xxxbloodyrists666xxx". (It's since become Nona Aime). Though for how much she said the sun burnt her, she started leaving the house more, especially at night; much, much harder for her to navigate, but she couldn't meet a vampire if she cooped herself up in her room all day!

Nona realised her ability when her "looking for vampires" images she snuck into an ad database in her teens caused her inbox to be flooded with messages, all begging for her to get out of their mind, to leave them alone. And so, with a personal fund of a few billion dollars, and a year spent honing her skills, she started to seek out other ability users. There has to be someone out there with the power to take her to a vampire coven, right?
