A legend of a time past spoke once of an elfin man who left his secluded home to journey with humans — who would then go on to save the very world, the leader of the band, Yukiharu, becoming known and revered as the Hero of Light. Legends always tell of the extraordinary, unique feats they are, after all. An elfin person affiliating with humans could certainly count as one, for the race is known for their reclusivity and misanthropy.
But in truth, as fantastical as this world may be, fairy tales do not particularly have their place in reality. Once a lighthearted and energetic trickster, Naoto has long since faded into the shadow of his legacy as a hero — as have most of his late comrades, mortals lost to the sands of time.
Naoto and other characters in his setting are inspired from my first playthrough of Miitopia made original and more fleshed-out. It's my dark and twisted version of it, if you will.
Naoto is sly, yet surprisingly lively, even if his conversation beats consist mostly of dark-humored jokes and cynical comments that are just lighthearted enough. His mischievous streak from before has taken on an undertone of malice; he schemes not for light fun or to pull of a prank, but applies his cunning to carry out underhanded plans.
As the world he lives in is once again being threatened by a great force of darkness, Naoto has taken it upon himself to be the one to collect the continent's light essences left by the great sages of times past. Taking a light essence from its source would compromise the safety of its territory, but uniting all of them would allow the combined power to banish the evil force at bay. Whether he is doing this as inspired by the same altruistic soul that once saved the world before, or simply for him thinking his life has no other worth and is expendable enough to put it at stake for this cause, is unclear.
Naoto is deeply loyal to those he cares for, as well as devoted to the goals he wishes to carry out — such a strong sense of resolve lets him take on daring tasks others may hesitate to. A former daydreamer made pragmatic and sharp-witted, he is assured in his judgments and willing to make heavy sacrifices for a greater good.
