INVENTIVE OUTLAW

Elle Scorie was once a servant to a baron and his family, in his grand and isolated estate. Tired of being overlooked and living in servitude, she broke away, running deep into the desert as her escape. Over time, she became a powerful bandit captain, an urban legend with the moniker "Cinder", one infamous for working with anyone, doing anything to get her way. It was during this time she called upon her previous knowledge to craft metallic wonders that would fill out her personal arsenal.

Personality

Elle "Cinder" Scorie goes by different names to different people. She's guarded, curt, and not particularly chatty; she's more interested in actions over words. She does what she must to get what she wants, but she always weighs her options carefully, and lets no one make any decisions for her. She notoriously allies, or works with, people from any faction-- Wild mages, Order mages, Witchfinders, and non-mages alike can all be found in her company. She cares little for politics or law, as neither truly affect her; she simply works with whoever she trusts enough to hand over the coin. [100]

History

Elle Scorie was born into servitude, her mother being the lady-in-waiting to the baroness of the estate. Elle was quickly trained to attend to the baron's daughter, beginning said attendance at a very young age. At first, Elle had believed the two to simply be friends; it was only as she got older, and the two began to differ, that she realized she was no more than a tool for the baron's daughter. She remained on the estate, living fully in servitude, until one day, the baron's tinker fell ill.

With no one else equipped to fix the water heater, Elle volunteered, the matter urgent in the cold weather; it was only once she began her work on the machine, far different from sewing and cooking and cleaning, that she recognized her magic-- an aptitude for artificery. As the machine bent to her will, listening to her wants, she realized she could do so much more.

After months of secret preparation, Elle had crafted a number of machines in her quarters: weapons, tools, and gadgets alike, to aid her in her escape from the noble's grounds. Her mission was a success; she fled far, hitchhiking, walking, hiding, until she found herself in the desert, nothing to her name but her machines, and began her rise to power.

As the years passed, Elle became known instead as "Cinder", famous for her explosive weaponry-- and the backfire scar she'd acquired from a jammed gun (which didn't keep her from firing, or winning the fight). Somewhat of an urban legend, Cinder was recognized as a bandit queen, a notorious outlaw willing to work with anyone, be they mage or non-mage, Wild or Order, Witchfinder or peacekeeper. Whoever had the money, spent the coin, she would work with them, and get the job done. [300]

Scorie was not aware of her abilities for most of her life; when she lived as a servant, her opportunity to work with mechanical or technical equipment was limited, as she typically only engaged in homemaking tasks or butlery.

It was when the estate's resident tinker fell ill that Elle took up the task of restoring the building's water heater. As she worked on it, she came to realize that the machine listened to her; she simply knew where to go, what to do, without being told or needing a manual. At times, it seemed as though the metal itself bent beneath her will.

Experimenting in secret, she eventually created enough of her own equipment to brave an escape, which successfully brought her out into the desert. She can work with any machinery with ease, but her particular preference is weaponry.

Scorie can use her magic to automatically sense how to fix machines, or instinctively know how to create them; in this way she can also imbue a bit of magic into them to equip unique effects on each item. However, she must build the item from scratch, and it does take time, and material-- she cannot create machines out of thin air.

Costs

  • [Magic does not work or has no effect except under specific circumstances: Scorie must build her own equipment and imbue it with her magic in the process; she cannot conjure the effects at will.]
