“Found one, Samantha Straum,” he says.
“Ah, I love her books.” Melissa smiles.
“I know.”
He hands her the book and starts looking again
“What is it you like about her so much anyway? You’re already a goody-two-shoes what do you need her help with.” he grins
She rolls her eyes at him.
“I just wanna be sure that when I get adopted, I’ll be the best daughter they could have ever asked for”
Now it's his turn to roll his eyes at her.
“Is that all you care about?” he scoffs
“Of course not, but it is important, don’t you want to be a good son?”
“Sure, whatever.”
“Whatever! what do you mean? I thought you of all people would be excited about getting out.”
“Yeah, but who's to guarantee parents are any better than the Mothers.”
“The Mothers are nice.”
“To you.”
“You wouldn’t get in so much trouble if you just followed the rules.”
“They don’t treat me nice either way!”
Emmett's parents "disappeared" shortly after he was born. He then grew up in one of the city's many orphanages, raised by 'The Mothers'.
He is very cynical for his age and has a hard time trusting people, or at least that's how he acts. He also despises being told what to do and will often act irrationally if it means defying someone.
They grew up together in the orphanage, and have been friends all their life. Emmett would never admit it, but he cares about her a great deal.
Pig KidEmmet started off with being slightly annoyed with Pig kid’s overly friendly attitude, but slowly grew like them. He may never admit it, but they are one of his best friends.
