Born in Aventurine Hallow, a community of halfings nestled in the Amber Woods, Chrysanthemum has lived a simple life. Her parents are kind people. Larzo, her father has been a farmer for as long as she can remember. His knowledge of the sun and the soil never fails to put a smile on Chrysanthemum's face. She would sit beneath the trees at the end of the day, listening to Larzo talk about his day's harvest. Her mother, Elina, is a healer for the community. Elina is passionate about the different uses for plants and flowers for her work. Chrysanthemum is the heir to the large Greatbloom family, as the only child of Larzo Greatbloom. The Greatblooms has lived in the village since its beginning. Her mother's family, however, arrived in Aventurine Hollow within recent centuries.

Chrysanthemum craves knowledge. She aspires to know as much about the wonders of nature as possible. For much of her adolescence, she studied under the bookkeeper of the community. He chose her at a young age and has taught her all that he could of what he has studied. Recently, he sent her out to explore and gain experience as an independent research to better prepare her to be the bookkeeper of the village. She takes this task very seriously and hopes to make him proud.
