A powerful healer with unique abilities. He just wants to be left alone with his farm and his chickens, but after saving his village from a terrible monster a few years back, adventuring parties keep trying to recruit him.
No one but Aruskus knows the extent of his powers, as he tries to keep them lowkey. He’s in possession of several magical artifacts, which he’s also secretive about. Though a loner, he's not an asshole and doesn't hesitate to offer his healing magic when needed. Aruskus isn’t exactly a mind reader, but he seems to know how others feel to the point of experiencing it himself, especially pain. It’s more like extreme empathy. He has abilities beyond physical healing as well- Aruskus can put certain effects on people's minds. These could help a person relax, or focus, sharpen memory, relieve exhaustion, etc. He tries to use these responsibly, only to soothe those who are hurting.
He also keeps sheep, goats, a couple cows and a farm dog. One among his powers is the ability to speak with animals.
Although not likely to start social interactions himself, Aruskus doesn't mind being approached in a friendly way. People who work up the courage to talk to him find him hospitable, though reserved. Despite being known amongst adventurers as a bit of a hero, the people of Aruskus's own village don't have the kindest opinion on him- quite a few believe that he controlled the monster in the first place, and was the one to summon it. Dark elves don't have the best reputation. Aruskus tries not to let it bother him much, there's always better things he could be doing. He values hard work, and doesn't think much of people who just sit and worry or complain.
The truth is... Aruskus never actually killed or even harmed the monster, he just convinced it to go away. It was just like an animal following its instincts, after all. But any trust in Aruskus could be lost if it showed up again, and he doesn't want people hunting it down either.
Aruskus is a great healer, but the only person he can't seem to help... is himself. He can heal himself physically, but has trouble untangling his emotional state. He's immensely lonely, but deep down scared of connecting with others. He also seems paranoid about someone or something being out to get him, and struggles with overusing alcohol as well as self isolation just to dampen all the emotions he can't help but constantly feel. Although generally kind and good-aligned, he's not really a happy or positive person himself.
