Starting off as a female, white Persian cat, Nox was a gift from a mother to her son, Cole Bayliss at the age of 17. Throughout Nox's life, Cole was her best friend. When Cole moved out of his family home to become a genetic scientist, Nox was taken with him. After Cole received his PhD and became Dr. Bayliss, he started a laboratory far in the north of Riftan. Along with him, he took his best friend, Nox. However, things began to change in their relationship.

Dr. Bayliss began locking Nox in his quarters, never being allowed out. Dr. Bayliss would frequently scream, slam his hands down in frustration over his work, frightening Nox into hiding.

One day, Dr. Bayliss forgot to properly lock the door into his quarters, leading to Nox managing to escape and run around the halls. After running for some time, Nox was about to speed past a room until she noticed that there was what used to be a human slumped in a chair there. Stunned and frightened by the sight, Nox didn't realise that Dr. Bayliss was behind her until he picked her up. He mumbled in thought before suddenly exclaiming and cackling, whisking her away into the room with the "human".

Gently placing her on the table, Dr. Bayliss began hooking up needles, clips and collecting samples. Nox quivered in fear. Using syringes, Dr. Bayliss inserted various liquids into certain areas of Nox's body. Finally, he pet her over the ears and picked her up, taking her back to his room.

The next day, all of Nox's bones, muscles and everything ached. Dr. Bayliss walked in, a pleased smile on his face as he stared at Nox's struggling. With practised care, he picked up Nox and began travelling to a separate room. This room was the exterior to a pure white box. The boxed in room was behind a tempered glass window above a control panel. The room was completely white with some cushioning on the walls and flooring.

Dr. Bayliss opened the heavy-duty door and placed Nox into the white room as a bunch of fellow scientists walked in. Turning back to the panel, Dr. Bayliss wrenched down a lever. The atmosphere in the room changes, a sudden and extreme shift in pressure became apparent. Nox felt her bones, fur, skin and muscles shift and extend. Lifting her head, Nox found the gaze of his once best friend, he was grinning ear to ear.
