Hokusai is often travelling, typically fishing and taking in the beautiful landscapes of the region.  He doesn't keep much with him as he didn't start with much.  Left in an empty home, he has traveled with his fish hood and companions for years, abandoning his birth "home" to find his own way through life.  He later meets a dog bagbean whom he grows quite fond of during his travels.
