He is an antipathic and slow person, that seems to react to few things around him and keeps his thoughts to himself. People might try to approach him because of his powers but will quickly think again when they realize that they won't gain any benefit from befriending him, as he seldom offers his help or even listen to other people's troubles (even to the point where he walks away when the conversation gets boring). There aren't many creatures that get in the center of his interest, and when they do it's mostly family or people that he noticed and approached himself. He is occupied with caring for the forest and the trees there, and would, at best, befriend a few animals; that is his priority, and he is proud that he is good at his job. 

Despite the fact that Dayuum uses dark magic and doesn't care about rules in themselves - considering them as a waste of time - he isn't a bad person, and wouldn't hurt someone on purpose. However, because he is cruelly inattentive to the people around him, he will, more often than not walk all over their feelings or boundaries as he wishes, not because he wants to be mean, but because he didn't realize that they were there. It is hard to say if he would still do the same if he were aware of them. Often, people start to get angry at him for being so insensitive without him understanding why, and that makes him isolate himself from them to spare himself the migraines, telling himself that it is not worth it to try and solve whatever is the source of the conflict.

All the above is true when it comes to people that approach him without being invited to do so; it is a very different story if his interest was picked by somebody. He will still quickly distance himself if met with difficulties, but the "curiosity" in itself is welcoming, in will stay, usually a quiet, settled presence that doesn't talk much but that is willing to listen. He enjoys company from time to time, he is just terrible when dealing with the hassle. 

He is very self-reliant and doesn't trust many people, especially when it comes to asking for a favor or a service. He will want to do things himself, both out of said mistrust and pride, all the way to the point of overworking himself when things get too much: and when he is stretched thin, at the end of his wit, he will only reluctantly ask for help. To avoid that, he has picked many skills over the years: gardening, foraging, sewing, cooking, everything so that he can live on his own and in peace. On top of that, he is also a perfectionist: if it's not done to his tastes he'll make it into a sleepless night.

All and all, he is about control, and his biggest fear is to lose it.  He is not aware that it's his biggest flaw, but someone observant can discover it in his when watching his behavior. That is why he doesn't like dealing with difficult people, or he prefers to take care of his own: he can control everything, or at least as much as he can, and that is reassuring to him.
