Haru was born to a set of loving parents, who unfortunately ended up having unreconcilable differences and divorced because of them when he was six years old. He ended up being raised by his mother, who remained single while his father wound up moving to the United States where he eventually fell in love and remarried. While Haru did keep in relative contact with his father, his father didn't really tell him too much about his new personal life, which is why it would come as surprise to him later in life.

During school, his teachers noticed that he had ADHD and suggested that his mother take him to an American international school that would be better suited to his needs, which his mother did end up doing, though she refused to get him an official diagnosis for his ADHD as well as treatment due to the stigma surrounding it as she worried that an official diagnosis would limit his opportunities in life and ability to succeed.

When Haru was 14 years old, he ended up being scouted by someone from an entertainment agency while he was walking home from school one day. He ended up being selected as an idol trainee and ended up moving out from his mother's house and into the dorms with the other trainees, some of whom he would end up becoming close with and later formed into the group 3N1GM4.

3N1GM4 would end up debuting when Haru was 17 years old, by way of a survival show that their agency created. While Ha-ru had fun and he largely shined while doing the various missions and challenges, though he often felt that he wasn't that much of a help when it came to doing the group portions, but he always seemed to manage to squeak by and not get eliminated, though he was constantly being told he was in danger of being eliminated by the hosts of the show. This was something that he hated as all of that stress was essentially meaningless since all of the members ended up not really being eliminated and everyone went on to debut within the group 3N1GM4.

While success was certainly not immediate by any means for 3N1GM4, the group was well-received and they did get a fair amount of awards. It was during this year (during the survival show even) that Haru's mother discovered that she had a terminal illness and wound up being hospitalized for it, something which led to Haru deciding to send all of what little earnings he made from doing the survival show as well as everything else in order to help support his mother financially in terms of her medical bills. This aspect of his life was something that did end up getting filmed and used for ratings for the survival show as it was required to show the backstory of each of the boys in the band. When he was able to visit her in the hospital, he would often spend stretches of time with her either talking or watching romantic-comedy dramas with her.

His mother would end up passing away from her illness when Haru was 19 years old, just before the 3 year contract Haru and the rest of the members of 3N1GM4 had signed expired and as a group were in the process of potentially signing a contract with a different, better entertainment company - Starshot Entertainment. Three months after his mother's dead and one month after having switched entertainment companies was when Haru had received the news that his father and step-mother had also passed away, having died together in a car accident. Haru ended up deciding to travel to the United States in order to attend his father's funeral, where he also discovered that he had a younger half-brother, Ezekiel, who was seven years younger than him.

Others in attendance at the funeral were sure that Ezekiel would end up in an orphanage or in the foster-case system. Despite not knowing Ezekiel, Haru wanted to reassemble what was left of their family and prevent his donsaeng from winding up in either institution. He ended up calling his manager and asking them to look into what he'd have to do in order to adopt Ezekiel and bring him back with him to South Korea and get back to him as quickly as possible. He would eventually be told that while it was possible, it would take some time and Haru would have to prove that he could financially support Ezekiel as well as care for him.

When all was said and done and the adoption went through, Haru brought Ezekiel with him back home where he discovered that his adoption of his brother had become news-worthy and had led to a number of paparazzi waiting to ambush the pair of them when they got off the plane and into the airport. Which wasn't a great start to things, but fortunately they were able to slip out a back way and make it to Haru's home.

It took awhile for Ezekiel to settle in at home, being plagued by nightmares relating to his parent's accident and also adjusting to a whole new country. Whenever Ezekiel had a tough time sleeping, Haru would end up singing him to sleep. This actually led to Haru deciding to write and composing some songs specifically to help Ezekiel as well as for 3N1GM4 fans fall asleep, releasing them for free on Soundcloud as a special gift.

Though Haru would eventually come to make enough money from being part of 3N1GM4, he wanted to ensure that he would be able to potentially help support Ezekiel financially no matter what he wanted to do when he grew up, so Haru asked his agency and was granted the ability to also go into acting as well as modelling. The money he would earn from all his jobs would go towards supporting both himself and his brother as well as go towards his brother's college fund.

The fact that he was working so hard to support his little brother was probably one of the reasons why Haru became quite frustrated and disappointed in Ezekiel when he discovered that he'd started ditching school and hanging out in PC bangs after Ezekiel's homeroom teacher called him in for a meeting to talk about Ezekiel's abyssmal lack of attendance and how, while it hadn't affected his grades yet, it would surely catch up with him soon. This was when Haru started having to track Ezekiel down and haul him back to school, something he hated having to do, especially when it would cut into what little free time he gets among his many projects.
