MYTHOLOGY

Of the Four Seasons, Autumn is said to be the second oldest, though she and her sister Summer trained and ascended together, side by side under Winter's careful guidance. She is not known to walk among mortals often, preferring the solitude of the sky or the peaceful darkness of the earth. But never think that you can sneak beneath her notice- she will keep the score, and when the time comes, you will always pay your dues. After all, you can reap only what you sow. Nothing more and nothing less.

PAST WORSHIP

Once, Autumn was a simple god, accepting anything her followers would give. Offerings were to be burned or left at her altar overnight. Eventually, however, the gifts stopped disappearing, and the fires would refuse to catch. Many of her worshippers anxiously speculated that she had died. Her following practically disappeared overnight. Only the most devoted of her order remained to tend the temples.

PRESENT WORSHIP

Only the most studious and clever of modern scholars have uncovered Autumn's new specifications. If the arrangements do not meet her standards, she will take no notice of the prayer. Of those who have discovered her conditions, all have bemoaned their incredible difficulty and inflexibility. Most have yet to uncover the instructions hidden within the riddles of her scriptures, and express their frustration at her vague and confusing instructions. The few who have grasped the true reason for the change warn others not to follow in their footsteps.

Background.
II

All but the oldest gods were mortal once. Autumn is no exception. Though she and her sister took on new names and new lives after their ascension, she still remembers what once was. Time passes differently, now. She made a promise not to forget.

It is hard to say how long it has been. Her sister remembers their childhood, playing together, and she does the same in turn. She stands, now, unchanging, watching a world she can never belong in again. The great artist has left their project to look after itself. She stands with the Sun, freezing. It's so cold without an atmosphere to hold the warmth in.

  • Her cloak matches the color and pattern of her fur down to the placement of the stripes.
  • The two fireballs above her head can be normal orange fire, or they can be blue, white, or multicolored, and tend to flare and flicker with her emotions.
  • Exact hex codes are not hugely important for her design as long as she's orange with dark stripes. Pattern placement is more important.

Autumn is a tiger/butterfly hybrid with red eyes and twin flames burning over her head. Her fur is darker at her paws, giving her the appearance of wearing dark gloves and boots. She has four arms, though she usually hides them under her cloak, along with her wings.

The cloak has dark stripes breaking up an orange base, a fluffy inner lining, and fastens with an orange button. In her mortal disguise, her only white marking is a round spot on her torso, but her natural appearance falls more in line with accurate patterning on real life tigers.

Theme.
IV

Autumn does not send signs to mortals often, but when she does, she tries to make them hard to miss. She prefers more direct methods of communication, if it is necessary to send a message at all.

Powers.
V

Masquerade of Mortality

Like most Lunightian gods, Summer holds the power to disguise herself and walk among mortals undetected. The disguise is imperfect, but it protects her idenitity (and the minds of those around her, as most find it maddening to even attempt to comprehend a god's true form.) She has a "default" form of the disguise, which she can deviate from with effort.

Seasonal Flair

Being the Herald of Frost, Autumn's primary job is to usher in the change from Summer to Winter. The world enters a kind of twilight in her presence, and she reaches the peak of her power each day at dusk. She simply makes the world around her feel like fall wherever she goes.

Answer Prayers

While prayers do not grant any power on their own, they make it easier for gods to harness more complex or difficult aspects of their own power. Those who find the endless whispering annoying tend to find other methods of control. Summer is among them, and these days she rarely needs this power except as a last resort.

Past her cold exterior, Autumn is fiercely protective of her own. But she is, above all else, fair, and she won't hesitate to discipline her followers if they go astray in her name. Many criticize her for being too distant and leaving them to their own devices in the first place, but members of the order all know that she's trusting them not to step out of line, and that she keeps a close eye on troublemakers.

Autumn (Sister)

As different as day and night, but closer than two peas in a pod. These sisters may bicker, but when in dire straits, they'll always have each other's backs. Ascending together brought them close, and that bond has never been broken, even in the most bitter fights. They're all they have left of their pasts.

Dawn (Protégé)

Dawn has been taking her ascension badly. Autumn has worried beside Summer every sunset she doesn't join them in the sky, but Winter assures them that they have it covered. Not that it makes them feel any better when their little Season-in-training won't come home to actually train with them. Surely Dawn will trust them eventually... Right?
