Profile

True name is B-1004, but people call her Silver. Her creator gave her that name.

She often pops her jaw off of the hinges and swings it wide open. This is an action that she can control, and willingly does it, No one is entirely sure why she does this. It was not encoded in her programming. She now has braces in her mouth to prevent her jaw from swinging too far and breaking off. She has had a lot of modification done to her. She was one of the earliest models. She was the 1004th robot to be made, but she was the first one to work. All of the other robots were unresponsive, and crashed often. They were not able to function, or serve their purpose. Her creator had a special love for her. She was like his child. He was very protective over her, and treated her like a sentient being. He did not make her do anything she wasn't ready for, and didn't let other scientist force her either. He polished her metal every day, and often replaced her weak cords. He even oiled her three times a day. He treated her so well, and he wanted her to become more than just a robot. He went behind the backs of his co-workers, and stole equipment from the lab for her. He started to experiment with her brain chip. He built her a new one, a much larger one. He wanted her to be able to store memories, to learn, to make decisions, to have emotions. Her wanted her to become alive. He installed the chip, but it wasn't enough. She can learn, but she does not have free thought. She was not alive, she couldn't store memories, or have emotion. He taught her how to do things, instead of coding it in. He taught her 15 different languages, how to play, how to speak, how to hold things. He coded another 1295 languages into her database. She is fluent in all of the coded ones, but unsure about the languages she was taught. Her teacher wasn't too good in those languages himself.

Her creator has fallen into a deep depression. Despite his best efforts, he could not make her sentient. He was in the middle of a French lesson with her, and suddenly he stopped. It was futile effort teaching her. He didn't think Silver would ever become alive. He walked over to his chair and sat down. He looked at Silver while she stood there, awaiting further instruction, as she was coded to do. He put his head in his hands and started weeping. All of his work, all of his love, gone to waste. He was fired from his job because he wanted her to live. His girlfriend left him because of Silver. And today, his former boss was coming to take Silver if she was still not sentient. His life was over, he had nothing. Suddenly, Silver swung her head over to look at her creator. She walked over to him, and with a remote, monotone voice, she spoke. "Creator, why are you crying? Have I failed you? I am sorry." He looked up at her. Those sentences were not taught to her, nor were they in her coding. She was never taught that crying meant sadness. Her creator asked her, "Silver, what did you say?" Silver looked at him, processing his request. She was never taught this sentence. She took a minute, but she pieced the words together, and understood the question. She repeated herself, this time the voice is less robotic, and with a hint of shame and sadness. "Creator, have I failed you?" She held her head low, and her ears were back. He tried to stay calm, he did not want to scare her. He wasn't entirely sure if she felt emotion or fear yet, but he did not want to risk upsetting her. He slowly stood up, and threw his arms around her neck. "No, Silver. You did not." Her eyes lit up. She swung her head up, careful not to hit her creator, and perked her ears forward. Suddenly, someone opened the door. Silver's creator let go of her and went to investigate. It was his boss, and he was here for Silver. He had a special taser, designed to shut down robots. Permanently. He stepped in without the permission of the house's owner. "Surrender B-1004 to the facility. Failure to comply will result in injury to you," the man threatened. Silver's creator stood there for a minute, thinking about what he is going to do. He was not giving up Silver. He thought about his options, and ruled them out one by one. The man was too large to fight, and the taser was ranged enough to kill Silver without him moving. Then an idea crossed her creator's mind. "Please give me a minute to go fetch her." He walked over to her, and put an expensive leather halter on her. He attached a rope to it, and walked her over to the door. Silver was uneasy about the situation, but she trusted her creator. "Silver, this man is going to take you." Silver's body language changed, and she started pulling back on the halter. Her eyes were turning a dark shade of blue. The large man stood in front of the doorway, tapping his foot impatiently. "Silver, stop this at once!" her creator said gently, but firmly. She looked at him, and started to speak. She sounded human. Her voice harbored a detectable amount of fear and worry. "Creator, I do not want to go! This man scares me! I do not want to be afraid!" The man stopped tapping his foot, and looked at the robot. His facial expression went from impatient, to intrigue. "Did she just say she was scared?" the man said. Before her creator could open his mouth, Silver answered, "You are scary! I do not want to go with you! I am afraid!" Her creator just stood there, astonished. She has emotion, and possibly free thinking. The man shook the creator's hand, and congratulated him on his progress. "I am absolutely blown away by this development! This robot has emotion! I am not sure if she is entirely sentient yet, but she is on her way. I will not be bothering you again. You are quite obviously capable of achieving this goal." And with that, the man left.
