Vaulk
This is my PC in a yo-kai watch themed dnd campaign. This is a setting with a reincarnation cycle. When someone dies, their memories are wiped before reincarnation, because those who keep their memories of past lives are often driven mad by it. The pantheon lore is important, so i'll put a quick summary of it here:
Thousands of years ago, the mother goddess Shuka fell in love with a yokai named Kuuten, and took on a physical form in order to be with him. Enraged by this, a band of humans and yokai came together to kill Kuuten on the day of his and Shuka's wedding, hoping this would convince Shuka to return to her divine form. However, Shuka instead became overcome with rage and grief. This hatred manifested itself in a physical form: the god Soranaki. Soranaki began killing everyone in sight, and the only thing that could stop him was for Shuka to relinquish her own physical form in order to create seals that would lock Soranaki away. After this, the bridge between the human and yokai worlds grew weak, leaving both realms almost completely separate, and leaving both without a goddess at all.
Now, in the present day, the seals keeping Soranaki at bay are weakening, and yokai are disappearing all across the city, leaving only the smell of ash in their wake. There are even rumors of yokai turning into monsters. Vaulk and the rest of the party have been commissioned by Emperor Enma to collect the seals that have been scattered across the world, and bring them to the palace where they can be better protected from the followers of Soranaki, who wish to destroy them and release their diety. Yippee!

Background
Wghatever thousand years ago, when Soranaki was first imprisoned by Shuka, his soul was split into 5 pieces; each sealed into one of the weapons known as the yosaiken. However, there was a sixth piece that escaped into a mortal form: one of the yokai present at kuuten's assassination. This yokai was given divine gifts: memories from the newly created god, Shuka's grief, something something voices, secret third thing, an uncontrollable anger like a fire raging in his core, and an insurmountable urge to break the weapons in front of him and release Soranaki in order to escape this newfound agony. He was immediately killed by the yokai guarding the scene.
However, the piece of soranaki's soul was simply passed on to the yokai's next incarnation. And the one after that, and so on. Each incarnation was cursed with the same anger, the same agony, and more and more memories of quick deaths upon peacekeepers blades when they grew too loud and too violent.
By the time Vaulk was born, she remembered the pain of hundreds of soranaki's avatars. And she would have died trying to fulfill her purpose just like each of them had she not met Inari. Being with him was like that faint haunting memory of shuka's love for kuuten all those centuries ago. It was radiant, almost divine. Something something she swore this time would be different. She swore she could protect him. And for a while, it worked.
What Vaulk hadn't anticipated were the followers of Soranaki. Some of them worshipped her like a god, some of them cursed her for not attempting to release the rest of their imprisoned diety. For years, she killed every one that appeared on her doorstep. Until the day that two yokai named Shutendoji and Douketsu arrived. Hoping to force their avatar to fulfill her purpose, Shutendoji overpowered Vaulk with immense strength while Douketsu killed Inari.
This sent Vaulk into a killing spree unlike any of her previous incarnations. In a blind rage she slaughtered everyone in her path. Something something Shuka's warriors stopped her, cursed her with immortal life, and imprisoned her in a magical garden that could not be escaped, thus finally sealing away the last piece of Soranaki's soul.

Many decades later, when Vaulk and her previous incarnations had been long forgotten, a young mage named Roswyn somehow managed to stumble into the pocket dimension containing the garden, and she convinced him to break the seal and free her. And when the emperor called for warriors to collect the yosaiken so he could fix the failing seals and prevent soranaki from breaking out, she saw the perfect opportunity. Because what the followers of shuka couldn't have known all those decades ago was that for the first time they had given an avatar of soranaki the time to develop all of the patience and skill and training she needed to accomplish her goal.

Okay so quick summary of the campaign. We have the party: Ace, Roswyn, Tarka and Vaulk. We have the NPCs: Emperor Enma, Natsume and Shutendoji. Vaulk is lying to the gang saying she's a follower of Shuka and her life's mission is to reinforce the seals. Enma sends Natsume and the gang to investigate cases of yokai disappearing across the city. Shutendoji is still loyal to Soranaki and keeps trying to screw Vaulk over becasue he's a dumbass and hasn't forgiven her for killing Douketsu. Vaulk fucking hates Soranaki and his followers but her only goal is to release him because she thinks it's the only way for her to end her miserable existence. Dnd shennanigans ensue.
