The mask he wears is imbued with a mystic property that prevents evil spirits, supernatural creatures, and demons from knowing his identity and following him to wherever he may rest.

He brought Jade back from the lost forest shrine and returned him to consciousness so that he may protect his village city from evil.

Though they may go some time without seeing each other, Jade and Byron are good friends - Jade trusts Byron more than anybody he knows. They are both quiet and reserved individuals who appreciate silence so they enjoy each other's company.
