She was the only daughter of a hunter.

Weak and sickly from birth, she grew discontent with being left at home while her father went out to his work. She saw her chance in a tattered stack of necromancer’s notes among the wares of a traveling merchant. Through trial and error, she taught herself magic enough to absorb the strength of the game animals. It was enough to restore her frail body-- but she was determined to grow stronger still and become a monster hunter. 

In her blind dabbling into the necromancer’s magic, she also tried a few times to revive dead animals. Her only success was in bringing a semblance of life to an old fox pelt. The fur, left by her grandfather, turned out to be the remains of a shapeshifter slain by the ignorant hunter. Foxfur does not recall her name nor the afterlife she tasted, though she describes being revived as ‘rudely waking from a pleasant dream.’ She has sworn to cost the huntress her life, both as vengeance for her current state and because she cannot be freed from the pelt while her summoner lives. (Foxfur cannot harm her directly.)

 Now on the road as traveling monster hunters, the two have a playful rivalry that belies the deadliness of their game. Foxfur is extremely useful, even though she relishes the challenge of occasionally trying to get her companion killed...
