Hawthorn
Digger of Buttercup Hills
We… We are the good guys, right?
Hawthorn is a large, friendly buck from Buttercup Hills. His low self-esteem kept him from becoming a member of the Owsla, so he serves his Warren as a Digger instead. He considers Chief Nutmeg and Caretaker Aythiroo to be his closest friends. Hawthorn is very loyal to his Warren and willing to do anything to keep his home safe.

Personality
caring . genuine . loyal . determined . noncompetitive . self-conscious . anxious . cowardly. weak-willed . prejudiced
Hawthorn thinks of his warren as his immediate family, and loves each and every member the same - well, almost each and every one. He tries to give other rabbits the benefit of a doubt. Kits have a special spot in his heart. He doesn’t like lying, even though he knows sometimes it’s necessary. Most of what he lets out of his mouth he really means. His love for his warren goes far, and he would do pretty much anything for his home. He looks up to his superiors a lot for advice.
When Hawthorn sets his mind to something, he usually gets through with it sooner or later. He doesn’t like giving up, but this also means he might not even try something he might fail in. Though determined, Hawthorn doesn’t really want to compete against his fellow rabbits. He’s a sore loser, but he also doesn’t want his family members to feel bad, so he usually steps down before any competing even happens. Hawthorn feels he doesn’t bring enough to his community. He knows his size could make him a great warrior against Bogweed’s and Lan-Hraeth’s ranks, but his fear of failing keeps him from even trying to get into Owsla. Even though he’s a decent digger, he often feels he’s not enough.
Hawthorn isn’t particularly jumpy, but he tends to think too much. This leads to a lot of pacing and unnecessary digging to relieve his anxiety. Moving makes him feel better. Hawthorn doesn’t have the heart of a soldier. His participation in the war against Bogweed and Lan-Hraeth is mostly from the back lines. He is easily manipulated, and he has a hard time trusting his own mind. He sometimes follows other people’s advice too much. His loyalty goes a long way, and he feels everyone who’s not part of the Buttercup Hills is guilty unless proven otherwise.
Kit
Hawthorn was born to a litter of four and from the beginning he was always the biggest and strongest of the group - at least before he grew up. Since he had great potential to be a fighter, the rabbits around him encouraged him to try joining Owsla. As a kit Hawthorn found the idea entertaining, exciting, really. He loved play fighting with his sisters. But as he and his littermates were growing up and his sisters started to gain size on him, Hawthorn started to realize that it was possible he wasn’t the greatest of them all, that he actually had to work hard to get into Owsla. This scared him.
Muddypaw
When Hawthorn finally got to the Muddypaw age, he had already given up on his dream (or was it his family’s dream?) and he decided to become a Digger instead. This way he could still help his Warren and not be a burden on them, but he didn’t have to endure possible failure. As parents should, his parents were supportive of his decision, his sisters on the other hand had not so much. Since they had grown up always fighting with a bigger brother, they had all gained a lot more experience and were all accepted into Owsla. This was devastating for Hawthorn.
He was his mentor’s first Muddypaw, so his mentor always made sure to be extra supportive with him. This helped Hawthorn become more confident in his digging skills.
Digger
Hawthorn and his sisters all graduated from Muddypaws to their respective ranks around the same time. Not long after that a fight happened at the border of Buttercup and Bogweed’s territories and one of Hawthorn’s littermates, Frithyroo, was killed. This was of course horrible for the whole family, but deep inside Hawthorn was a tiny bit grateful that he hadn’t been the one fighting and possibly now dead… Wait, how could he feel that way? His own littermate was dead, and here he was, happy that it hadn’t been him!
Hawthorn felt deeply shameful for his thoughts, and after this incident he distanced himself a bit from his blood family. He felt he didn’t deserve to be with them anymore.
RP events
Some time after, a new threat showed up in the Valley: Lan-Hraeth. This massive Warren immediately declared war against both the Buttercup Hills and Bogweed Woods. Suddenly Hawthorn found himself working with his old enemies. He was one of the Diggers sent to save General Gladiolus from Lan-Hraeth’s territory. Hawthorn was one of the Diggers sent to save General Gladiolus from Lan-Hraeth’s territory. The night ended up scarring him deeply, both physically and mentally. He blames himself for hurting Captain Downpour and Sergeant Datura by collapsing the tunnel on them. Even though the mission was a success, Hawthorn didn’t feel like a hero. He spent some time healing his wounds and talking to Owsla Nutmeg.
However, their victory was a short one - soon after Lan-Hraeth launched their counter attack, and ended up taking over the Buttercup Hills. It didn’t feel real, not at first, even when he talked about it all with Owsla River. But when their new overlords decided to sacrifice the innocent Digger Cocoa to their gods, Hawthorn was truly terrified.
Somehow, amongst all the terror and trauma, Hawthorn was able to find new friends - and perhaps more? He met Caretaker Aythiroo during the wintertimes and soon the two of them grew close. Hawthorn had never met anyone as lovely and warm - and not to mention beautiful! The pair has yet to admit their feelings to each other, but Aythiroo isn’t very subtle…
After nearly twelve excruciating moons, Buttercup Hills had finally had enough. With the help of Bogweed Woods, the valley rabbits drove Lan-Hraeth back to their mountains. Hawthorn’s home was once again free, and the new Chief Nutmeg put together a long day of festivities to celebrate both their freedom and their god Orientem.
Now, the only thing left was to end Lan-Hraeth once and for all.
